This test is an autosomomal STR test. Autosomal STR testing is the type of test that is used for DNA identity and relationship. Y-DNA testing is used for tracing male lineage to investigate male ancestry or to see if males descended from the same male lineage. mtDNA testing is for tracing maternal lineage to investigate maternal ancestry, or to rule out whether individuals descended from a common maternal lineage. If you are interested in Y-DNA or mtDNA testing, you will need to order it from the Genetrace laboratory website. Please note that only males have Y-DNA so only males can take the Y-DNA test. If the question is regarding paternity or relationship, the correct test type is the autosomal STR test, which is the type of test which is used for all of the relationship test kits.

This test should only be considered in situations where the alleged father is unavailable for testing. Whenever the alleged father or alleged parent is available for testing, the DNA Paternity test is recommended over the DNA Aunt/Uncle test as the DNA Paternity test is far more powerful and will always provide conclusive results. In cases where cousins need to be tested, the correct test to order is the DNA Cousin test, which is also available.
