Classic Albums from An Eclectic Group
This box set features the first five Cars albums, from their classic debut on though their best selling Heartbeat City. The Cars were always a difficult group to define. They produced plenty of Top 40 hits in their career like Drive, Let's Go, and Let the Good Times Roll. They could be very experimental at other times, as in their third album Panorama. They could perform moody ballads like It's All I Can Do and heavy rockers like Maybe Baby. For a five member group with three guitarists, many of their songs are dominated by synthesizers producing repetitive patterns and overdubs. It was New Wave at times and pure pop bliss at others. The CDs sound great, with each CD in its own sleeve duplicating the original album artwork. It is a little difficult getting the CDs out of the sleeve at times, but that is my only real complaints about the set. Popping one of these albums into the CD player takes one back to the 1980's in just a few seconds.

Great sounding box
Great sound quality. Probably best I have heard from one of the original album series boxes. First 2 discs are chock full of hits. 3rd disc, Panorama, sounds like DEVO. Lots of my girlfriend left me songs on these albums. Was not a Cars fan when they were new. Of course I heard all the hits but I have been buying a lot of these Original album series boxes and there is a whole lot more to these bands and their recordings than what was revealed on radio air play.

Si vous aimez The Cars, il n'y a aucune raison de laisser passer une pareille offre. Les cinq CD réunis ici valent à eux seuls tous les "Best Of" qu'on pourrait sortir sur ce groupe génial. Ils renferment quasiment tous les meilleurs titres et leurs petits frères qui pourraient rester en rade dans une compilation où il faudra bien faire des choix pour garder ce qu'on estime être le meilleur. Ici vous avez tout : le cinq majeur, la meilleure main de la partie de poker, etc. pour une somme tout à fait raisonnable qui vous met le CD à moins de 5 euros. Une petite somme pour un grand groupe et un grand compositeur (Rick Ocasek) trop méconnus à mon avis, de ce côté de l'Atlantique. On peut acheter les yeux fermés pour le plaisir des oreilles.
