Is rechargeable and no need to change any batteries. The shoker is so strong that with >10 levels I need level 2 is enough and 3 is a lot. The previous collar I owned went to 8 and usually it will take a 7 for my dog to respond.Cons: worked well during the winter this week my dog went in the water it took maybe 1-2 times and the collar is not working anymore.Is unpractical to me that the control does not stay on, it turns off after 1-2 minutes then to make it work you have to press the front of the remote and the side of the remote to deliver the sound or shock. Non convinient since I have my dog with me off leash while I run and there is no point of using the collar if I can’t use it immediately to correct an unwanted action. The front bottom is sensitive and changes the mode from sound, vibration and shock very easy so before you press the side botton that delivers you need to make sure that your are delivering what you need. My dog has ni reaction to vibration mode even the highest level.If you are planing to train your dog in your back yard this collar will work.No practical for me: my dog does not pull on leash knows all basic commands but has a hard time resisting running after other dogs to play or chase a squirrel, since I have him off leash and I am busy running I need a collar that delivers as soon as the unwanted behavior happens.
