Master Lock 484 Lockout Tagout Rotating Gate Valve Lockout

I used these to keep unauthorized people from using our faucet and it really did its job. It fits perfectly on our standard garden faucet and its red and highly visible so prevents any one from even trying to access the faucet.

It’s very good to keep away small children from opening a water valve. However, for older children like age 7 it’s not so convenient they can easily break it because it’s plastic made. We used it for a small playgroup to keep away children from opening a water hose.

The lockout seems to be more of a deterrent, rather than a safety device. I am using this on a 100 pound tank and was hoping for a lock that was more durable .It is not the easiest to operate as the parts seem to bind on themselves when trying to unlock.

works well, except it gets stuck when I try to open or close it. can't find anything that catches, it's just the design. still, it serves its purpose

These valve handle protectors come in various sizes and we use them everywhere for tamper proofing. Outside water valve handles, small and large propane tank valves, oil tank fill and vent caps. They are value plus. They could be penetrated by a very determined vandal or thief but it has never happened to us and if they looked at them they probably just said too hard, and went to the next home/business. Inexpensive security and piece of mind.

What a piece of junk. The reason you buy gate valve locks is to secure the gate valve. This is made of a really thin plastic. I knew it wasn't metal but at least thought it would be a heavy grade plastic. This is a Childs toy basically. So if you need a gate valve lock that is in a high tamper risk area you will want to avoid this like the plague. And for the price it makes it even worse. IN low traffic locations this should be priced around $5.99. High tamper traffic areas $0.00000000000 worthless.

The water faucet on the front of my house is being used my passersby , homeless people, dog walkers,etc. My water bill shot up $40 since last month. So hopefully this lockout device will deter future UNAUTHORIZED water theft.. The product looks and feels solid and secure .Maybe the light fingered passersby wil KEEP OFF and away from my property and go use a public water source.. The sturdy plastic construction combined with the pad lock hole feature probably will deter unauthorized use.. We'll see this week after the heavy duty pad lock arrives. KC

I'm one of the few smart ones living in my apartment complex. On more than one occasion, it was necessary to shut off the main supply to prevent disastrous flooding. The same people that left the window open in -20˚F weather came down and turned the water back on. Twice. With this, when the water is shut off it will STAY off until the maintenance dude shows up. Highly visible and effective, it gets the job done.

This is definitely NOT a high security device as it is easy to prise it apart with a screwdriver - it is only made of plastic - hence the low price. It is only useful for preventing the accidental operation of the valve. For a secure device to deter theft you will need to look elsewhere.
