I've read the hardcover and listened to the audiobook. My review is 3.5 stars so I'll round it up to 4Like Anna, I'm from Maine. We don't have many celebrities that come from our state. That's part of the reason why I'm a fan of hers. So when she wrote a book I decided to buy it. A lot of people are saying she's "too young" to write a book. I think they're half right. The book would've been better had she waited until she retired but at the same time she's had a very abnormal life that's worth telling. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if this book was just an easy money maker for her, just capitalizing on her fameAs for the book, it wasn't bad. A good mixture of personal life and career. I saw some reviews complaining about Anna discussing her sex life and other personal stories. I don't have an issue with it. If you just wanted to hear about her career you could Google it or go through her Wikipedia page. I honestly thought her personal "normal" life was more interesting to hear about. Her upbringing and build up to her Hollywood career was engaging. I'm always interested in how celebrities got to where they are. I applaud Anna for having the courage at 17yrs old to move to Los Angeles by herself without knowing a soul there. Trust me, going from Maine to LA is a culture shock. I would've never been able to handle a move like that at 17.I wished she talked more about the inner workings of Hollywood and what it was like working with actors like George Clooney, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Affleck, etc. She's been in some big productions but doesn't talk much about it. There was a nice passage about dealing with a death in the family while filming Pitch Perfect, which required her to fly to the funeral for a weekend, then fly to Canada to shoot a different movie for a few days, then fly back to Louisiana to film PP. There were other interesting stories like prepping for the Oscars. It's crazy that they had stand ins for Oscar noms and they actual prepared and gave a real speech as if they had won while preparing for the real show. Other stories like performing at the Oscars with Neil Patrick Harris and then quickly hopping on a private jet with Ben Affleck to fly back to GA to film The Accountant was also fascinating to me. She also dropped hints about celebrities becoming "couples" just for the PR. I wish she included more stuff like that.Aside from that, my other complaints would be the book kind of jumped around a bit. It wasn't really in order. For instance, at the end of the book she tells a random story about Buccaneer Days on Catalina Island that took place when she was 21. This was after everything that happened when she was older. Also, the whole chapter dedicated to fake parties she would throw was really random. Definitely should have took that out. My last complaint is she came off as a bit narcissistic at times. I believe she made a joke in the past about it so I guess she knows.Overall, I enjoyed it. Definitely recommend the audiobook, it's only 6 hours so it's a quick listen. Most of it was done while driving. Wait, you don't know who Anna Kendrick is? That's okay because prior to seeing the Pitch Perfect movies, I really didn't know who she was either. After seeing the first Pitch Perfect movie, I looked her up because she looked familiar and found out she had also played a supporting role in the Twilight movies as Bella Swan's friend. It probably depends on who you ask but for me, I think the Pitch Perfect movies really thrust Ms. Kendrick into the spotlight, especially if you are a fan of those movies. She also voiced the character of Poppy in the new movie Trolls. Because I love the Pitch Perfect movies and watch them frequently, I was extremely excited to buy this book."But the crazy wants out. Let's do this."When I read these words, I laughed! I like people who are so confident and comfortable with themselves that they can admit they have a bit of a wild side without the fear of judgment from others. Anna Kendrick is just that. "Scrappy Little Nobody" is an autobiography that spans from when she was in kindergarten through present day. Even from a young age, she has always been small and looked younger than she actually is. That hasn't stopped her from making up for it with her sarcasm and feisty attitude. In fact, Anna Kendrick would make a formidable opponent so no one in their right mind would want to pick a fight with her, despite the fact that she's small, which takes care of the "little" part. We've already discussed the "scrappy" part. She calls herself a "nobody" because not many people know who she is and she actually prefers it that way. To me, her personality seems similar to her character of Beca Mitchell from the Pitch Perfect movies but there are some differences of course.I love that she is so real and, in spite of being talented in the arts, she could be just like you or me. She hasn't let fame go to her head and seems to like living a normal life, at least as much as she can while still starring in popular movies. Anna Kendrick loves sweatpants (because who doesn't????) and being lazy. She just happens to have a phenomenal voice and great acting abilities.I would like to add some words of caution if you are considering buying this book. Because Anna Kendrick is so vocal and doesn't hold much back, this comes across in her writing style as well. There is quite a bit of profanity in this book, which may bother some readers, and there are some situations involving substances so I would recommend this book for mature audiences. Also, if you are looking for details on what happened while she was filming movies, this isn't the book for you. There are some details mentioned but, since this book is an autobiography, it's more about Anna Kendrick's life and why she is the way she is.In summary, I'm so happy I bought this book because I learned a lot more about someone who is very talented. This book is sarcastic and very real. There are also several black-and-white photos of her throughout the years as well as a reading guide at the end, which is just hilarious! If you are a fan of Anna Kendrick and would like to know more about her, I recommend purchasing this book.
