I bought three 50lb bags and used them all. I suspect I have more than needed and could have gotten away with just 100. I have checked the sand after running the filter for some time and all of the visible debris is captured within the top inch of the sand bed. Adding more than suggested just reduces the headspace above the sand bed which needs to be open for debris accumulation. **Q: Have a 3500 gallon water Koi Fish pond.....will this system be ok ?** A: This system is more than adequate for your needs.
