Crochet for Beginners: A Stitch Dictionary with Step-by-Step Illustrations and 10 Easy Projects

Nice book for beginners. I have been crocheting for years and as I teach friends, I wanted a nice book for them to see and visualize how the stitches look. This book definitely fits the bill. There are a few cute patterns in the back, however, if you are comfortable crocheting I would not buy it for the patterns. But if you want to know how to crochet and desire to see stitches step by step on paper, this is a wonderful book. I also like that it shows the ins and outs of crocheting, as well as the tools, what the different size yarns and hooks mean, and how to use it all together. Great book for beginners.

purchased as gifts for a couple of budding crocheters. I thought the instructions were really clear and helpful. One of them at least has been working on learning the stitches and how to read patterns and finds the book's instructions clear and easy to follow.

Great for beginners. East instructional guide.

This is a good book. The book is basic don't get me wrong, that is the purpose of it, but there are three issues that I have when I reading this book. The first issue that I have is when the author explained to tools and other essentials tools. Some of the tools are self explanatory, but I wish that she would give a example when she explain the use of the tools. For example, the stitch markers. The explanation of the stitch markers is basic and simple, but I wish she would give a examples of using the stitch marks while crocheting. The second issue that I have when the author explain crochet terms and stitch basics. For example, the slip knot. I had a hard time understanding what is it that I was trying to do base on what the author explained in the first step. It says, STEP 1 TAKE A FEW INCHES OF THE WORKING YARN AND FORM A LOOP WITH YOUR FINGERS. LAY THE LOOP OVER THE WORKING YARN. I wish the author would have said that YOUR LOOP SHOULD LOOK LIKE A PRETZEL or your loop should like this or that, or your chain stitch should look like a braid etc. I can understand that the author can't make a reference on every loop, stitch, or chain, but It would be a good ideal if the author would make some type of reference on the loop, stitch, or chain if the author can. And the last issue that I have with this book is the the yarn selection for the project. Example, the Dish cloth set. In the author book the author says to use PREMIER YARNS HOME COTTON BIG, I don't know if its true or not, but I found out that this particular yarn is discontinued. I wish the author would gave a alternate choice when choosing a yarn, for example IF YOU CAN'T FIND THE YARN THAT IS USED FOR THIS PROJECT, YOU CAN USE YARN A,B, OR C, OR THIS BRAND OF YARN, OR IF YOU CAN'T FIND THAT PARTICULAR COLOR FOR THE PROJECT, YOU CAN USE ANY COLOR OF YOUR CHOICE etc. Overall all this a good book for crocheting for beginners.

Clear instructions and pictures are easy to understand

Love the step by step illustrations. I’m visual and this really helped to understand.

As a newbie to crocheting, this book is a great resource in helping to grasp the art of crocheting. The book uses illustrations and actual pictures to help teach the art. The illustrations are very clear and detailed. With each new stitch, the book provides an enlarged picture of what the stitch should look like. The book also provides pictures and instructions on some gift-worthy items!

Not great at explaining things. Ended up watching videos to learn.

This is a great book for beginners to learn crochet stitches or to use as a reference if you forget. It has simple instructions which are illustrated as well as written which makes it easy to follow. A great addition to my crochet hobby.

At last, a clearly illustrated ,well written beginners guide to this wonderful craft. Easy to read and comprehend , a very handy reference book for beginners and also more experienced “yarnies”.Highly recommended.

The book is written so people can learn how to crochet easily

Crochet Books I have purchased several crochet and knitting books. They are very well written and easy to follow instructions. I refer to mine often and always learn something new in the way as a new stitch or a "how to". A very good purchase for the money!!
