Is additional add-on needed for ssd m2 nvme(perhaps m2x)? what key does it support? is it support m2 sata ssd or just nvme ssd?

I've owned a vim4 for a year, and yes, you could plug an m2 directly into the slot on the back of the vim4. The problem is the direction of the m.2 port, if you plug a drive into it, it will extend outward from the board. Using the Khadas M2X Extension (~$10), it allows for the addition of an m.2 drive, and it will be tucked under the board. I used a Samsung Evo 970 in slot on the back of the vim4, then moved it to the port on the extension device.

As they have a heatsink and fan, I would think that as long as you have air flow you should not have a problem.
