WOW! Caught hundreds within minutes!
Why did you pick this product vs others?: Holy cow!! We have been battling beetles every summer for years, and for the past three years or so, we have bought the Spectracide beetle-in-a-bag setups. This was my first time trying this brand, or any other brand for that matter. And let me tell you - the other brands do not even hold a candle to this one! Within minutes, we had HUNDREDS of beetles from setting up just ONE of the two bags. I’m not even joking! Side note/pro tip - do not do what I did! Make sure that you open and set it up a little bit away from your deck or door! I had never ever had results like that before so, silly me, I stood right outside my door on my deck and started to setup one of the bags, intending to get it situated and then carry it out back into the yard to hang on one of our existing shepherds hooks that we use for them. Well, within seconds of opening the lure up - no joke - I was being swarmed with beetles! It was insane. I actually ran away with the bag at first, not realizing what was happening as that had NEVER happened before. Once I realized it was the lure/bag, I put it down and ran inside to get my significant other for moral support, haha. We were blown away by how effective and quickly they started to work! He hung it up, we killed probably a hundred beetles by hand, and within 20 minutes we had hundreds more in the trap and they just keep coming! The attached photo was taken 20 minutes after opening and setting up the bag. And the video was taken almost exactly 24 hours after opening the set up to hang one bag (EDIT: for some reason, it won’t upload my video and keeps failing)! I will never, ever buy a different brand again! If you are battling beetles (Japanese, garden beetles, the copper colored ones, the brown speckled ones - ANY beetles) - I’m telling you - give these a try! I am SO impressed! Would give 10 stars if I could.

Japanese beetles are crazy about these things.
Every time I hang one of these bags (during active Jap. beetle season) I am absolutely swarmed by them. They love the spice scent it puts off. If the sun is shining on it, it's almost not even fair. You can literally stand there, pluck them off the scent holder & drop them into the bag. Last year I hung it closer than I probably should have to some of our plants because I wanted to make sure they stayed away from other plants. This year I moved them 50-100 ft from any landscaping or vegetable plants and I also used three at a time. This year they worked even better. The bugs can get out if you let the bags get anywhere close to half full. As long as it stays below that level, they either can't get out or just don't want to. The other key is to empty out the dead ones. I'm pretty sure they try to get away from that smell. I take a bucket of soapy water with me, open the bag into the suds, and dip it in the water until most of the pile is gone. Then I try to clean as much of the remnants out by hand as I can. They show using a hose but 2 of my bags are too far from a spigot for that to be feasible. We have a lot of wind around our place so the last thing I do to try and mitigate bug loss is- I hang the bags on a shepherd's hook and then tie them with a string to a landscape staple. This keeps them from putting undo stress on the plastic hangers. Great design, great value, works every time. Highly recommend these to anyone looking to get rid of as many Japanese beetles as possible.

BEST THING EVER FOR BEETLES!
I bought these last year and got so busy battling other bad bugs in our garden, that I never got around to hanging them. This yeat, we have such a big issue with grasshoppers, that I was slow getting to the traps. I got them out to hang them today. I was SWARMED just trying to get them hung. We had half of a 5 gallon bucket FULL of *(now drowned) Japanese Beetles within a couple of hours. I would guess well over a thousand. So many that we had to stir them down into the water as we were dumping them. We hung one off the telephone pole and one of the edge of a tree. The ones that got loose while we were emptying the bag? Were flying back in while I was trying to hang it up again! I had already ordered more. We will be using several around our property! I will also be treating the ground with Natodes this fall and next spring to see if we can significantly reduce their reproducing population! As quickly as they can skeletonize plants? I think these will go up at the start of every spring and stay there through fall for several years. Hopefully I can do my part to eliminate millions of these destructive beasts. Trap effectiveness: EXCELLENT Why did you pick this product vs others?: Recommended by one of the "good bug" sellers, trying to bring balance to our good bugs and reduce our destructive bugs. I live in farm country and a lot of people spray chemicals and we do not. Smell: I expected a funky smell, but it was more "clove like" in odor, so not horrid at all. Build quality: If you don't rinse the bag each time, it can be difficult to close again, as they bugs do get trapped in the plastic "lip" along the edge of the velcro closure, along with their feces. I know I squashed a few just getting it closed tight again. Value for money: WELL WORTH THE MONEY SPENT! *(I HAVE been told that you can drop your drowned beetles into water blocks and freeze them for "icy" chicken treats in the summer...)

It attracts every Japanese beetle in the county.
We only bought two of these and placed them 30 feet away from our fruit producing trees. Set up was pretty easy. Hanging then was easy. We didn't have to wait long for the bags to fill. Pluses are: Chickens will come and gather under the bags for beetles that fall too the ground. So it's a great chicken feed supplement. Beetles collected also make great fish food if you have a pond. The down side of these bags is the Velcro bottom closure. I found after emptying the bags the first time, the beetle poop clogged and weakened the Velcro so that the next time the bag filled, the weight of the beetles caused the bag to open and the beetles happily fell out, flew off, and some found their way back to the lure bags. We solved that issue by rolling up the bottom and securing with some clothes pins. It may be better to hang the bags further away from the plants the beetles love, like 200 - 300feet away. The lures work well, but I think we had less beetles the last couple of years when I hand picked them off. We still have beetles in our plum trees and lots on the grapevines. And they just love my hibiscus. Note that the bags do not actively kill the beetles like some fly traps with water, so make sure you have a way of disposing of them once you have a full bag... And it will get very full, sometimes twice a day.

Traps work really well!
Holy smokes these worked well! I had my doubt but I found my self dumping these about every other day when I first put them up. I think they started losing their effectiveness after about a month, but I’m still very impressed with how they worked. I will just make sure that I have a couple of extra bait for next year when I put them up so I can swap that out. If you are buying you might figure out a different way to hang other than the twist tie. I ended up using some of the green stretch ties that I use in my garden. That was pretty disappointing to see the bag on the ground when the twist tie failed! I will definitely purchase these again for next year. They saved my pole beans.

They really work!
My neighbors and I have grape vines on the fence between us. We noticed tons (TONS!!!) of beetles had taken up residence on the grapes. Totally unacceptable. They needed to go. So... I ordered these beetle catchers. I'd had them a couple of years ago to protect peppers and tomatoes from the dastardly bugs. They work even better than I remembered. Within 4 hours of putting them up (one at each end of the grapes), the bags were at least a quarter full. Unbelievable! I have two more to put up on sheperd's hooks.but the ground is too hard right now. And we're doing okay with the pair since they're still catching bugs. Watch the video on assembly and how to clean and you'll be ready to go when they arrive. We're all allergic to the chemical sprays and pesticides so these were the perfect solution. Buy these and avoid the sprays even if you don't have allergies or asthma. You'll stay healthy and the bugs will be gone. G.O.N.E.

Florida and Southern Residents, Works on Black Southern June Bugs with Help.
I'm a resident of central Florida and do battle with the black June Bugs from May through July evety year. They eat my tomatoes, my roses, my mangoes, and other plants. They seem to be immune to everything except very harsh pesticides... and no manufacturers of beetle traps make traps specifically for this type of beetle. I bought these in the hope it would help me control the numbers of beetles. The trap was simple, easy to set up and comes with a scent lure. I hung it up and within hours it had trapped a few lovebugs, but no beetles at all, despite my yard being full of both. So I decided to try and figure out why. What I learned is that beetles emit pheremones when they are in mating season which attracts other beetles, but each beetle species has it's own pheromones that do different things. Pheremones help beetles decide what beetle is of their species, which are male or female, which are sexually receptive, which are happy and healthy and which are stressed and unhealthy. Japanese beetle pheremone scent is pretty easy for us to replicate and turn into bait for these traps. Other beetle species are more difficult and costly which is why we dont have traps for other types. So the trick was to figure out how to find some happy healthy beetles and get them in the trap. It was no trick actually! I visited my garden, found a cherry tomato that three beetles were happily feasting on, then pitched it into the trap. The next morning three bottles had become approximately 10. I found another tomato with beetles and threw that in the trap. Presto, the next day there were at least 50 beetles in the trap! The trap has been set for 5 days now... every now and then I toss a small tomato into the trap, then more beetles join the feast and fall in the trap, and there are now almost NO beetles in my yard. So, this trap definately works on black Southern June bugs... but any trap would work. They just need a bit of food to keep them emitting those happy pheremone scents and draw them all in!

Works
Works well! I can literally see them flying all around and right into it. I have two out and they are filling right up with them. One is between my peach and cherry trees. The other is in the landscaping of my house. Cons is that they give u a bread tie to hold it up. The first day the one in the trees kept falling down. Its windy out there. Within the first two days the one blew so much it flipped upside down on the Shepards hook and all the beetles got out :( I ended up getting a second tie and securing the bottom to the pole so it cant flip. You may be able to see in the photo what i did. It still is able to catch lots more beetles with my adjustment. The second one (ive had them a few weeks now) is up by the house the tie broke and the trap fell today. Most of the beetles in it had died but I imagine any live ones got out. So ive secured it back up and also did the bottom like the one out between the fruit trees. They are catching lots! I still am picking them off my plants. We are probably going to order more of these. :) They are catching them, so other then my adjustments for secure hanging they are good. Just be mindful to secure them. It was heartbreaking to see lots in the bag and coming back in a hour to them dumped out!
