Good device once included... read details for more

*by C***O on Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2017*

'Tis the season, and this year the house had more outdoor decorations than in years past. I already have some older GE 12720s and some newer GE 14284s - the main gripe on the 12720s is just the range, which the 14284s address pretty well. Since the Inovelli controls two chains and is a Z-Wave Plus device, I figured it would have range similar to the 14284 with twice the control capability while only costing 50% more.EnrollementI'm not sure that my experience will be representative, but I had a huge problem including the Inovelli on my Hometroller Zee S2. While the button-less include/exclude is a nice feature of Z-Wave Plus, it took forever to get the device included. I ended up with several partial includes, which had to be cleaned up with excludes. It really didn't matter if it was secure or non-secure... it would usually time out on retrieving the associations. After interface resets, reboots, and finally putting the Inovelli about 3 inches away from the S2, I was finally able to get the device included (with all 3 of the children created). Again, YMMV, but I've NEVER had this much difficulty with any other Z-Wave device (and I have 150+ nodes). The good:When included on your network, the outlet switching works as it should. I didn't have any need for the heat notification, but I guess it could be used to indirectly detect an overcurrent issue (though I'd prefer power monitoring for that). It's also a repeater, which is nice. The less good/bad:I would imagine that most Z-Wave meshes are primarily built in the contained living space, so range is a big deal with a device like this. While I don't have a great way to measure range, I tried to do a comparative analysis with a 14284 (since it should be apples to apples). I placed each device placed in the same location (not at the same time) and fully optimized on the network. I looked at the route speeds (for routes travelling through the devices) and reported neighbors. By distance, it looked like the Inovelli seemed to have about 20% less range. I could be wrong, but I don't think there's any variation in the radio/antenna for devices with the same version (4.05, in this case). Since signal drops with the square of distance, it would seem that there's some pretty significant (but not massive) interference or attenuation going on with the Inovelli.ConclusionThere really aren't that many outdoor-capable Z-Wave Plus devices. The Inovelli isn't perfect, but it has unique functionality (2 independently controlled outlets), and it's priced well. Considering my difficulties including the device on my network, it's possible that I have a defective (but still somewhat functioning) unit. If I need any more devices with similar capability, I'll probably buy more of these.

Great support for an excellent product

*by J***C on Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2017*

Before I start my review I want to thank Eric (Founder inovelli) for his IMMEDIATE assistance. He answered my emails almost immediately and we were able to resolve the initial issues I was having. On with the show...I've just started automating my home to be a Smart Home. I purchased the Samsung SmartThing hub about a week ago and just received my first batch of sensors today. The 4 First Alert Smoke and CO2 sensors are in. Water leak and 2 MultiPurpose sensors for the doors went in with no issues. I've also hooked up 1 outlet to control a light on my Album Rack. (You know vinyl? Licorice Pizza?) Gotta be able to turn something on where people go 'oooohhh ahhhhh' cause smoke detectors and water leak sensors just sit there... until you need them.So I wanted the Z Wave device to install in the garage to turn on and off some lights as well as use as an extender. So... following the PDF instructions sent in a Thank You email I started to add my 'Thingie'. Yikes! Won't add. Let's take a look at the instructions and troubleshooting sections. Moved the Z Wave a foot within range of the hub... nope. It just sits there and spins it's wheels. You can't Exclude it then add it. I read and re-read, tried all the tips and still no-go.Let's try support. The company included a business card with Eric's email addy so I sent him an email and detailed the issues I was having. Within 30 minutes he responded and asked to provide a bit more information. I responded and within 20 minutes he provided some troubleshooting steps. Let me list them here:1) Soft reset of the HUB - there's a little red button on the back of the HUB - press that down for about 10 seconds or until the lights go off (this will not effect any other devices you have on the network)2) Then try the exclusion process again, except this time, press it 6x within 2 seconds (fast) - don't wait for the light to turn on/off3) If that works, go to the main screen and press the (+) sign (top right) and again, press it 6x in 2 secondsI completed Step 1 with the soft reset. Be patient and watch the pretty lights and wait till the hub's LED light shows steady green.***The key to Steps 2 and 3 are to press the button on the Z Wave FAST. Don't let the LED light on the front of the Z Wave to toggle ON/OFF. Press FAST.Note: In my earlier troubleshooting steps I'd press the button, the LED would change, press again, the LED would change, etc. WRONG! Press 6 times fast!Success! I followed the Exclusion process (to clear up the device and start fresh) and then added the Z Wave with Add Thingies.Perfect! Excellent! Awesome!I'll install out in the garage tomorrow and work on the process of adding Scenes. Gotta have it do something right? Turn on a light after someone trips the motion sensor and then pump a shell into the shotgun, kick off a siren and then have an audio file play 'This is the Police! Hit the floor scumbag!'Thanks Eric for all your help

    Workes Great 2 channel

*by A***U on Reviewed in Canada on November 20, 2018*

I use it with SmartThings connected no problem and works very well. Alexa can also control it just fine and you can rename the channel 1 or 2 to whatever you want and tell her to turn "the name you gave it" on or offGood price for a portable z-wave plug. Feels sturdy well built.Used in summer to turn pool pump on and off automatically especially useful during peak electricity pricing hours. Pool pump is actually pretty expensive to run, wish I bough this earlier in the season. Being portable now i use it inside for whatever else.My only issue is on the "software" side as it appears as MAIN PLUG then you have to go to sub menu to turn each channel ON or OFF, still if you make a routine with ST you have a choice of 3 plugs only the channel 1 and 2 would actually work. Making routine was very easy I didn't have to invent any subroutines.I guess what i am trying to say there is no need to have it show up as 3 plugs especially since the 1st one (main one) cannot turn both subs off or on as stated by someone else.
