Can this run off batteries?

It uses batteries but but the batteries are for memory only in case the power is interrupted to the unit The clock will keep time, it just will not display it until power is restored

How to set time using buttons on the side of timer?

Hold down the Set button for a bit, I think it said 25 seconds. Then it'll take you through the time and date. There are up and down buttons above the Set one that you can use to set it. I hope that helps!

Does anyone have trouble with the clock keeping the right time? Each time I set the clock within a week the seconds are off from when I set it.

I did have some problems with it keeping time until I put a new battery in the backup slot. After that it seemed to do better, but frankly I'm not too impressed overall. I keep it out in my gym and it seems to be alright on the hours and minutes, but I have never given much attention to the seconds.
