Review: Tricky to use, but worth it for it's unique properties - Overall this stuff is great for what it's meant for. The picture is a face up i did using this stuff, with soft pastels, watercolor pencils, acrylic paint, and gloss varnish to make the eyes shiny. This is a UV protective sealant designed with doll and toy customizers and faceup artists in mind. This is not your normal spray on acrylic clear coat. Do not buy it for that purpose. This spray provides a truly amazing "paper like" texture to the doll or whatever you spray it on, allowing you to use items like soft pastels and watercolor pencils on slippery surfaces like plastic. Do NOT use oil based mediums like normal colored pencils, oil pastels, or oil paints with this sealant; it will cause a chemical reaction that will leave your project gross and sticky. One thing to keep in mind is that this sealant creates delicate, thin layers, that will prevent layers of color underneath it from pulling up, but it is not "chip-proof", so it is not optimal for sealing in acrylic paint on modified doll bodies or other projects. Using this sealant properly has a learning curve and takes some getting used to. Here's how to use this stuff for doll faceups: Step 1. wait for a cool, dry day. Mr. Super Clear works best in cool but not cold temperatures with low humidity. You may be able to get past this by storing the can indoors, spraying your project outside, then letting it dry in an area like a garage, but results can vary. This is what i do and it usually works out for me. Step 2. Get a respirator, gloves, and whatever youre going to be spraying. ALWAYS wear at least a respirator when using Mr. Super Clear, and spray it outside, as it is highly toxic when inhaled. If you're spraying a doll with hair already rooted, mask off the hair by wrapping the hairline in scrap fabric and securing the fabric in place with pins placed behind the hairline, so that you cant see the holes the pins poke. Hopefully the pictures will help you understand what i mean. Step 3. Use two to three light sprays, about a foot away on the doll. The dolls face should be ever so slightly shiny but should not be soaked. Applying too much at once can cause a "water droplet" pattern on the face or smudge colors underneath, and can even cause the sealant to function improperly. Step 4. Wait 30 minutes for the spray to dry. You may need to layer coats multiple times to get the desired amount of texture. If you're a beginner, i would recommend 2 initial coats to on the dolls face to start. Step 5. Throughout the repainting process, apply a new layer of sealant once the colors of your watercolor pencils and pastels dont seem to build up as nicely, or, if you want to "save" your progress. Step 6. Apply 2-3 coats of sealant to finish the face. If you're having trouble getting the paper-like texture then you may be using the sealant incorrectly. Try another layer in more optimal weather conditions, or using a thinner coat may help. This sealant is tricky to use, but it's unique characteristics make it worth it for doll repainters like me. If you're curious about doll customizing i highly recommend you look into the hobby as it is incredibly fun and satisfying to transform dolls into adorable characters.
Review: Popular for a reason, but use at your own risk. - There's a reason this is so popular for doll and figure customs. It gives a nice, paper-like texture to the surface of figures - thus making it easy to use materials like water color pencils and soft pastels for meticulous color application. On top of that, this also works incredibly well as a sealant for custom projects. The only thing I will say is BE CAREFUL when using this product. It is TOXIC!! Using this product OUTSIDE with a respirator IS NON NEGOTIABLE. If you think I'm being dramatic, then you're uninformed LOL Use this product with precautionary steps only.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What type of mask should be get for using this? I've seen a few of here and ebay, can someone point me in the right direction please?**
A: a Half Face or Full face mask with Vapor respirators.
Do not use a dust mask this will not protect you and the vapors are highly toxic only vapor respirators can be used
just never breathe it in it will seriously wreak your lungs.

**Q: Hello, what kind of cartridge/filter etc would be best when using a 3M Respirator mask for working with this toxic stuff? Thanks**
A: The strongest and smallest particle filter you can find... you want to totally block breathing this stuff.

**Q: I can’t seem to get this to build up the tooth everyone talks about on my dolls, am I missing something? Barely get any color down and it’s smudgy.**
A: You are most likely using this in a really humid area above 70% humidity. Always check the weather because it tells you. If you are in a particularly humid place, aim for 55% humidity and below because these reports can be inaccurate. Also, try using this in a outdoor shed with a respirator (one of those hazmat radioactive mask thingies) and the door open. Never ever use this product indoors because not only does it stink REALLY bad, it also lands on any surface that you spray it around since its airborne. It will turn white and powdery as it dries and its not fun to deal with please don't try it. In the shed try covering stuff with a plastic sheet so the spray doesn't ruin anything around it. Also let it dry for a good 30-45 minutes to be safe, and let it dry outside unless you want to stink up the whole house.

Once you stop building up the pigment you need another layer of this spray.

If its too smudgy and nothing else is working try spraying less and from a distance of at least 1-2 feet away from the doll. Don't hold down the button, instead do quick spritzes all over the face, holding down the button for a maximum of 3 seconds each time. The face of the doll should look damp and visibly wet but the liquid should also be visibly evaporating. If its not, then you've sprayed too much.

Don't use it in temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius or 86 degrees Fahrenheit and don't use it below freezing. It is less sensitive to the cold than to the heat. If you live in a place where it gets extremely cold or extremely warm that can also be an issue as is living close to the sea because humidity levels skyrocket.

If none of these things worked, I wish you the best of luck, and maybe you should just try thin or soft acrylic paint and Liquitex matte finishing.

**Q: To fix a doll repaint, can we use a matte varnish or watercolor fixative instead of this product? Unfortunately this doesn't ship to my country.**
A: There are other sealants you can use but you'll get mixed degrees of results as well. Mr. Super Clear is by far the best and it can be bought through other vendors, just google and you'll find them... also, there are good articles, a multitude of articles about repainting vinyl dolls from people that have tried various products... you can also google... a good one that has experimented with other types of sealants is No Nap Time or http://www.nonaptime.com/2013/07/supplies-for-repainting/ Good luck!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not flat, it’s matte.
*by J***R on July 16, 2025*

MSc is great for mh doll mods. And is the best to use. However, even though the seller lists this as “flat” uv spray, I have bought this multiple times and every time I got the “ matte” uv spray instead. Matte dulls down your final colors just a tad. So I’m always adding final colors that don’t get sealed. I wish o could find a real listing for “flat!” But I have bought this and continue to buy this. It’s a good price. Also always use a respirator mask, always spray outside, watch the wind direction! And wear gloves! This is toxic!! It preps a doll with a fine layer of texture so you can use watercolor pencils to draw and pastels to shade. Keep your spray lighter,, if the dolls face looks wet after spraying it’s too much! Always let the doll dry between sprays, 30 mins minimum. But if you get a wet face, wait until tomorrow! You can erase pastels and watercolor pencils if your tones or lines are t right as you go, but can not after you have sprayed! If you need to restart your face up, Acetone will remove the spray and all your work. Wash the dolls face, let dry and re-prep the doll with msc to re-start. Good luck
