It was smaller, triangular, and had a white feather. Our cat LOVED that toy. The issue was that it was from TJMaxx so there were no feather replacements to buy. I bought this one as a replacement for the toy because it seems better. It wasn’t. Don’t get me wrong, he still plays with it, just not as much as his old one. Wish I could ask him why. He did love the free pompoms though. I never bought them because I didn’t think he’d like them but I was wrong😭 He has literally torn them apart. He’s gone through one feather so far, easy to replace, just twist the old one off. I feel like he rips feathers out easily, but he does get very aggressive when hunting. My husband and I work 12.5 hour shifts so we charge this up while we sleep (it doesn’t take that long to charge we just like to ensure it’s fully charged when we wake up) and then play with him before work. Then when we’re leaving, we turn the toy on and hope it lasts long enough to keep him entertained. We often come home to find it flipped upside down. Another thing is, my cat doesn’t walk by the sensor. He somehow ends up on the opposite end. I wish they had sensors on all sides so that he can play whenever he wants and not when he accidentally walks by it to get food or water. Still this is a toy I recommend. He does not like those puzzle games or the moving balls/mice at all. He barely pays them attention. He prefers if I throw a ball for him to chase, or if I use a wand toy for him to try to catch.This toy was a game changer. First when you turn it on it does take a few seconds to start up so I put it in the center of the floor & as cats do he immediately walked over to sniff it. The feathers popped out startling him & he was hooked. At first he tried catching them immediately but then he started watching and trying to guess where it would come out so he could pounce. The feathers pop out a couple times from the same side then randomly go elsewhere so it is not easy for him to judge. He was entertained for 15-20min before he walked off & sat to keep an eye on it from a distance. I put it away shortly after, brought it out the next day & he was back at it. Definitely a great buy.A few things to point out- I would not leave a cat unsupervised with it. I saw that he was able to grab ahold of the feather a few times stopping it from retracting. He didn't try to eat it, he let it go seconds later but that made me wary because he might one day try to take a nibble.- it cab be pretty noisy so if you're looking for something quiet this isn't it. The mechanism isn't super loud it's that my cat moves the box around while he attacks & it scrapes along the ground. If you can anchor it (think velcro command strips) then that would resolve the problem.- it takes like 10 seconds to start up, and periodically stops for a few seconds. The reason I settled on 4 is because it comes packaged in a box that is itself another toy! It has little cutout lines on it that you can push bits of cardboard out of, and then hide some cat toys inside for your cats to try to fish out. My cat was distracted by this for hours before I even introduced the whack-a-mole toy to him! The box also came with a couple of toy balls. One of them I threw away because of the shiny material it was made of and my cat's Pica disorder, but the other was a perfect ball to hide in the box. I also added a couple little rattling mouse toys. In addition, the box includes several replacement feathers for the whack-a-mole toy and a short USB wire. Anyway, I love that care was put into the packaging so that it serves multiple purposes and is less wasteful, and that this company was generous with the included extras.As for the whack-a-mole toy itself, my cat loves it, perhaps a little too much. When I activate it, he'll play with it for hours at a time! In fact, his interest in it lasts longer than the toy does. Unfortunately, the battery life is not nearly long enough. I was hoping to have to charge it once or twice a week at most, but it doesn't even last a quarter of a day with the frequency with which my cat plays with it. Furthermore, it is designed to have a right side up. When it is upside down, the toy doesn't really function properly, and makes a constant noise that doesn't stop until you flip it back over. It kind of defeats the purpose of the toy going idle when the cat walks away from it if the toy is upside down and won't stop making noise and draining its short battery in the process.And speaking of noise, it is loud enough to hear across a room, but quiet enough that it won't bug you in the next room over, or if there is a medium level of ambient noise. I don't notice it too much while I'm watching movies or playing video games, but if I'm just sitting at my computer or something, it's very noticeable and a bit annoying.So, all in all, this toy needs to be able to flip itself over to right itself or be redesigned so that it works correctly regardless of which side it's sitting on, its battery life needs to be drastically improved, and it could be a little quieter. Aside from that, it's a winner. Even as we speak, my cat is staring at it, waiting for it to charge and wanting to play with it.
