I bought one to see how it worked and then bought another one for our second sliding door. I installed a motion detector switch in our laundry room that I really like but its right next to the entrance. When you walk by or the dog walks by the light comes on if the door is even a little bit open. I couldn't get my wife and kids to keep the door completely closed as you have to be careful to make sure it doesn't bounce back when closing. This fixed that. It doesn't take long to learn how to apply the right amount of force that will make the door get close enough for the automatic closer to engage and finish the job. The force doesn't have to be exact, just close enough to engage the closer. A warning. The track on the sliding door has to be the right size to fit the rollers on the latch. Mine were too small so I had to buy the door track and hardware. Since the track runs up inside the wall when opened you have to figure out a way to get it out and get the other one in if your track has to be changed. You can always tear out the wall but that requires a lot of work. I built a tool that pivoted on a vertical board and strapped an electric screwdriver to the end that would fit up inside the wall to remove and reinstall the screws that hold the track. It worked great but you have to be a little creative about how to build the tool. It’s now June 2021 and everything still works great I added a mudroom to our house that had a sliding door and of course purchase this product again. I did just that. I installed on a 28" door with about an inch of space to spare in the track. However the instructions say the minimum door width should be 24". Just make sure your door brackets (on top of door) are spaced correctly from the edge of the door (It varies depending on door width). As an aside I tried to put one more door bracket in the middle of the door to hold a standard roller, however the roller would not fit in a two mechanism soft close system (both sides open and close system). It may work on a 30" door or if I played with the bracket spacing a little. I just thought that since I had the extra parts three rollers would be better than two to distribute the weight of the door (65 Lbs). **Q: How much force is needed to pull the door open? Can it be done comfortably with just your fingertips?** A: Not a lot of force. It is a two way spring that stops the door, and slowly closes it. A child can open and close it without problems. **Q: Can this be used on a 1500 series pocket door by johnson? 36"** A: Yes, it is specifically made for the 1500 series pocket door frame and the 100PD series track and hardware. **Q: Can this be used for other brands of doors and tracks?** A: I don't think so. The trolley and the clamping mechanism on the arm are made to fit Johnson aluminum pocket door track. So I purchased this one from Amazon. I have one from Home Depot and one from Amazon. The package from Amazon was different kind of thrown in the box with box stuffing, however everything looked the same and all parts were there. Home Depot had everything nicely set in plastic, but product was the same. Just in case I installed the home depot one for the soft open. So it’s behind the walls. The Amazon one I installed as the soft close. That way it is accessible just in case. Both products work the same. Super smooth. I am very happy with the product.
