Oil Change Kit for Speedhub

What is there to say? This is the stuff to use. The kit makes it easy.

Was completed in under 20 minutes. Drained the old, spun through the gears with the cleaning oil - drained that and installed the gear oil. This hub can handle just about anything but if you've seen an exploded view of the gearing it's very complex and insuring the lubrication is regularly changed is the only requirement you have -I'm pretty faithful on this and my bike has thousands of miles on it now, from two hour cardio rides to two week fully loaded touring; and let's face it - it's too expensive a replacement to allow to be ignored. This kit is PERFECT for it, cleaning oil removes everything and replacement oil is Rohloff specific - can't go wrong.

- At the time of this writing, a Rohloff Speedhub is around $1500. When you have a premium piece of gear like this, you want the right stuff to take care of it. Considering that there are nylon components inside this hub, using the wrong product would react with the plastic and damage it. Why risk that? - When I first changed the oil, I put the cleaning solution in first than rode out for a while. When I came back to draw out the mixture, it was noteworthy that there hadn't been much oil in the unit, certainly not 25ml- maybe 8 or 10. The 35mL total I then pulled out of the hub looked like old coffee with sparkly metal powder in it. The hub had a total of only 220 miles on it at the time, but it was a year old. - By reading both the manufacturer's webpage on the matter and various user forums, I see this is fairly common. Quoting Rohloff: "Reduced oil level by leakage through the seals will not cause problems and riding further until the next oil change (annually or every 5000 km) is possible." Still, I wouldn't want to run it dry. I would recommend this kit over any of the homemade concoctions I see on the net. Too much $ at stake.

I have been using this product for over four years, but for the last two of them I had to request an exchange because the bottle of oil does not seem to be at the right level

I purchased this kit and watched a couple YouTube videos on how to use it. Frankly, the enclosed instructions were better than the YouTube videos on the process to change the oil. It has everything you need to care for your Rohloff transmission.
