I bike since I was a kid, and bike at least since 12/13 years a lot. I've tried new "experimental bike products", since I stronbly believe in entrepreneurship. I started on powermeters my self a bit less than two years ago after I got a stages for my road bike. I had a succesful experience, and I wanted an alternative for my mtb bike; powerpod sounded great, since my mtb frame's geometry won't work for the stages. Powerpod shows power on my garmin, I can share the data and see it in Garmin Connect and Strava; I knew it was complex to calibrate it, since it depends on wind estimations, seemed something logical while I read about it before buying it. The reality is harsher... the calibration has to be done almost everytime you go out by conecting it to the computer thru the Isaac software; you have to plug it, then minimum 5 minuts pedalling hopefully on a plain (I live on the top of a hill, I cannot do it just like that), then check if it got ok, if not you have to go back to the computer, set the callibration and 5 minutes again: everytime (I started going out to train, to pedal with frinds or to compete with my notebook on the car). This because the calibration gets lost easily. Once you passed that and you are pedalling the conection between garmin (or any bicycle computer) will get lost or interrupted for different valid natural reasons, this without blocking the air vent, or without changing the orientation relative to the bike; that disconection will cost you dearly, for it will return power to zero and when it starts over again (if it starts over) the power might start the over 2000 o 3000 watts (or 16000 once) and then getting back to regular values, that means that you will not see power on fractions and it means that on the overall balance that "great" peak of power will cloud your final power analysis. At the end I already got tired of the callibration process, of carrying my notebook always, and loosing my info due to "dirty communication issues"... it's a product problem, not a repairing or user problem. I get to drive on my road bike and stages works great.... after 6 months of intense use, of consulting all the support from powerpod I tell you this: don't buy it or consider it seriously, because I think there might be better and more reliable sources of power even a convenient prices.
