Let me start by saying, I have had this on my TBR list for years. This was my first Alice Feeney novel, and I am not really sure what took me so long to pick one of them up. The narrative is broken into three perspectives: Amber's thoughts whilst in her coma, her remembrances of the events leading up to the accident that put her in the hospital, and diary entries from the early 90s. The sections where she is in her coma are haunting and claustrophobic. What I liked: 👍 While starting slow, the pace and intensity increased, as as more and more about Amber's past is revealed. There were some shocking moments. 👍 The ending had two plot twists that I did not see coming at all, my mouth was literally hanging open over one of them, which is so exciting and I love when thrillers can surprise me like that! 👍 The characters are all pretty unlikable and not without flaws. Entirely complex individuals. You never know quite who you can trust. There are plenty of secrets. 👍 I thought I had figure every thing out, but then BAM, everything changed. What I didn't like: 👎 The beginning. It. Was. Slow. I was bored and it took me a long time to get into it. Synopsis: Amber Reynolds wakes up in hospital, but to everyone else she is in a coma. She can't move or speak. She can hear the people who visit her, but they're not aware of it. The narrative jumps between the "Now" in the hospital room where Amber attempts to uncover what happened, a "Then" leading up to what happened, and childhood diaries from decades ago.

A masterpiece, it is. The book's amazingly creative storyline and quite unexpected twists make your heart leap out of your body. You can never even bat an eyelid until you reach the last page where another twist awaits you. Wonderful

It lingers on for long. Very descriptive book though. Got more interesting towards the end. Very difficult to tell what was true and not. Just not what I expected really.
