It has a very fine, smooth texture, it blends well and it tastes fantastic. It mixes as easily into mayo or dressings as it does into soups and stews. The jug it comes in is sturdy and the handle makes it easier to work with. The price is great for the amount. Besides cooking, my wife sprinkles a little of this powder in her flower beds and vegetable garden in the late summer and early fall when the squirrels and chipmunks start digging. They don’t like the smell or taste of onion. Often, just smelling it will stop them from digging, but for the ones that try anyway, once they get a little on their feet and lick it off, they change their minds really fast. It isn’t harmful to them, the taste is simply too strong for them and they don’t like it. Sometimes she will mix this with a bit of red pepper powder, as some of the little diggers seem to be repelled by one more than the other. You can also mix it in water and use it as a spray. Areas will need to be retreated after it rains, but it only takes a small amount to be effective. She also sprinkles some into our composters, turning some into the mix and leaving a little sprinkle on the surface to deter any insects or rodents. This jug will last us a very long time. For long term storage, pour it into resealable freezer bags and store it in the freezer. It’s a great way to always have some on hand when you need it.

**Q: The container was only just over half full. Is that normal for powdered spices?**
A: Yes, this is normal for powdered spices. We take the product photography when it comes right off the production line. During transportation, the powdered herbs and spices tend to get packed down - making it appear less full, while it's still the same amount of product noted on the package.

**Q: Will this onion powder come out of a salt shaker?**
A: Hello Georgia SunYes you can use this from a shaker as the container has a shaker/spoon top.  Be aware this is a powder, and is not granulated so it will not pour like salt, but like baby powder.  If you place this in a shaker I recommend you use wax paper, or saran wrap to cover the opening.  The moisture in the air may make it clump.  I keep the protective lid intact and spoon it out.  I hope this helps.

**Q: How much sugar is in this onion powder**
A: The container doesn't state ingredients which would lead me to believe its pure onion. It is ever so slightly sweet but almost imperceptible under the onion taste. Just know, it is absoLUTEly powder, as in dust-like, so much so that when you use it, quite a bit becomes airborne. For that reason I wouldn't buy this again.

I really don’t like onions. I like the flavor of onions, I just don’t like biting into them. So I’ve used onion powder from one brand or another all of my life. But I find the McCormick brand is always the best quality. It comes in this large container that will last you quite a while, so I value the price a lot.
