2009 digitally remastered edition of the British guitarist's musical masterpiece. Fans old and new can celebrate the great work of Mike Oldfield with this very special release of his classic, multi platinum selling album Tubular Bells. This exciting new version of his 1973 groundbreaking album will not only be repackaged, but Mike Oldfield himself has also remastered the tracks from his home in the Bahamas and has overseen a new stereo mix. This is the first classic album to be released from Mike Oldfield's back catalogue. It is 35 years since the opening passage was used in the film the Exorcist, making the album a global phenomenon. Five tracks. Review: Gorgeous! - Mike's remaster from the original multitracks is nothing short of magical! The song will always be hypnotic but this updated mix is cleaner, stronger and more enjoyable. The original release had some low frequency noise that was impossible to remove. This digital remix gives us Tubular Bells as it was meant to be heard! Instruments come through cleaner, stronger and louder! Tape hiss and other artifacts we've been used to are gone! My only issue is that I waited to pick this up, but that was entirely my own fault as I did not know it existed! Any fan of this album should treat themselves to this sonic wonderland as soon as possible, and hear it again like it was brand new. Review: A masterpiece for the time it was released - I remember hearing "Tubular Bells" when it was first released back in 1973 on a radio station that played albums during the evening hours. Granted, I wasn't very old and I had to borrow my mother's portable FM radio, but nevertheless, it burned into my cranium and back then I believed it was a masterpiece. So, by getting the CD version of the album I heard was all I needed to re-live that experience. Like 'The Dark Side Of The Moon', 'Tales From Topographic Oceans' and 'Selling England By The Pound', this is what I consider progressive. In my opinion, it is an orchestral maven and it deserves to be in the collection of those who lived this period and still enjoy hearing songs longer than 3:30 minutes. I realize the album version is different than what Mr. Oldfield expected. But, THIS is the version I remember hearing and this is the version that I enjoy. The infamous movie came later. The album was first. It is NOT the theme to The Exorcist. It is 'Tubular Bells' and I will continue to enjoy its beauty, no matter how minimalistic or dated it seems. At the time it was originally released, it was a monument recording and that is how I will view it. Avant-garde, yet majestic, haunting and in my words, symphonic. I am pleased to finally have this in my collection.

The original, nothing more or less
I first heard this in its entirity via a scratchy record from a used record store. Scratches and all, I loved it (well most of it - I found the "Piltdown Man" annoying). Now I can hear everything clearly. Since I ordered the CD used, I'm not sure whither I got the "remastered" or simply "transferred to CD" version. My CD sounds like the record (without the scratches). There's no dramatic increase in dynamic range. It would have been nice to have separate tracks for each "movement", not just part 1 / part 2. It would be nice to, say, jump to the start of the "introducing the instruments" section (which has a definite beginning) and to skip the "Piltdown man" (which has a definite beginning and end).

Epic pop poetry...
This too often gets tagged with the description "the music from The Exorcist", and that's a shame, because the whole album (especially the first half) is phenomenal. Oldfield played almost all the instruments himself, and the whole suite (it's one long song clocking in at just under 50 minutes) is amazing to listen to. I've always loved this album, and despite having other Oldfield albums (which are great as well), this is really the most exceptional of his work. There are many, many memorable themes played within the 50 minutes, culiminating in a wonderful, intense, and joyous ending. Oldfield doesn't get lumped as progressive rock, but his work is very similar to it, especially here. Remember to get the original version of this. There are many other versions (including a sequel, an orchestral version, and another version with narration by John Cleese(!)), so make sure you know what you're purchasing.

Excellent music
Saw a special on TV, it's been years since last hearing these songs. Perfect time to upgrade library from cassette to CD. Fine seller, no problems, and as described. Would definitely do business with them again.
