This is not an urban sketching trip and I doubt anyone else will be doing this so I can’t be lugging along and pulling out a lot of gear. I have a larger Lithitlab case that is my “vault” for all things extra I like to have with me locally. I love it but its format is too large for this need to order another. I want to be able to have something that can easily be put in my purse (to be determined). I can get everything I need in this small compact case EXCEPT my palette - even my smallest, dearest Whiskey Painter’s palette is too thick at 7/8” total (includes projections from mixing areas & thumb ring) to zip up the case. So my dilemma is, do I love this case enough to spend $50+ on a “pocket palette” (at 1/4” thick & I THINK will fit in vertically) to save size and weight & still have a palette? I have an old “freebie” make up bag that EVERYTHING fits in, including 2 Whiskey Painters palettes, but loaded it weighs almost 1# (more with a Moleskin sketchbook, BUT the sketchbook fits in it!). This case loaded would be just under 1/2# , is half the size, and in reality I would have more than I actually need. It would seem like an easy decision. Review: Best Pencil Case for artists that pack light - I couldn't wait to receive this package. When it arrived I immediately loaded it up with my favorite journaling supplies. I like to carry a few items around just in case I get a few minutes to journal, but I hate feeling loaded down. Average pencil cases are a tad small for those extra art accessories, but the larger art cases are overkill. This bag has just enough room for a few pen options, washis and a watercolor palette--perfect for my needs! Plus it has tons of little design features that make it easy to use. It sits upright on a table and has a gusset to open wide and find what you need. There are just enough pockets to organize without adding bulk. The pockets are also netted, so you can see what's in there. There are double zipper pulls (really smooth action) so I can open it from either side when it's shoved in my bag :) The tapered top is a small detail, but it really helps reduce size without sacrificing storage. So far this pencil case is a huge win. Fabric seems strong but I'll update review after awhile of real world use, to let all know how it holds up. It's mighty compact, carrying only around 10-11 pens and still be able to zip up easily. I use only one side carrying around 5 pens for work.You can put 5 on the other side if you don't want to use the mesh for a pocket book and even fit a small eraser or correction tape in the second mesh pocket. I use this for work and carry around 4 highlighters, a black gel pen and a Sharpie when I need to mark down orders or take a note. Be mindful of how thick the items might be when putting it in this case cause it reduces the amount of other items you can put in. I use the mesh side to hold some id cards, coupons or whatever and the second pocket to hold an eraser. It is slim enough to fit into a purse or bag pack without taking up a lot of space. Overall this is a great case, it feels nice, it's well made and looks nice too.
