When I took it out of the box and installed it, the rope was pretty stretchy. I left it out in the first rain (which took an awfully long time considering I live in Seattle), and let it dry in the sun. Now it's tighter and doesn't stretch as much. For the best experience, your hammock should really be about as tight as you can get it on the stand.I know from experience that my hammocks will typically last 1.5 yrs if I leave them outside in the rain. With this hammock, I am rolling it up and storing it in the garage in-between hammock naps. Right out of the box once I got on it, it nearly stretched to the ground. I ended up tightening it up (a lot) and then had to have it wound up so tight that it was honestly completely horizontal before I got on it so that it was off of the ground a decent ways. I wouldn't recommend it. As soon as I laid my 185 lbs. in it, it stretched to within about 4 inches of the ground.
