The Beginner's Guide to Hand Building: Functional and Sculptural Projects for the Home Potter (Essential Ceramics Skills, 2)

This is my favorite pottery book by far. Very detailed instructions, wonderful pictures and templates included.

As usual Sunshine Cobb does not disappoint. I am grateful for any resources and information she is willing to share. Her information is an everyday resource and easily understood. I like that she does not waste tedious time and space explaining in detail all she knows about chemistry, all her knowledge in years of study and practice. Of course, we all know and recognize her level of education and experience. This cannot be written into a book. I value the fact that she does not try. Instead, she gives us concise and practical applications anyone might find valuable. Her patterns are skillfully shared. I really admire her lack of ego and humble nature. Thanks for being you Sunshhine.

Sunshine’s style is truly delightful. Her ceramic wares are aesthetically pleasing and the way she explains her processes through writing is both warm and inviting. With step-by-step instructions for projects, bright, clear, and vivid images, templates, examples from various other artists, and more, this book has instantly become a welcome part of my ceramic arts library! It arrived just this morning and I’ve already read it from cover to cover; I know that I’ll certainly be referring back to this chestnut for years to come! Recommended reading for everyone who works/plays in clay.

Fantastic! Not what I expected for a “hard cover”, it’s more of a thick, paper cover. Great beginner guide though, I’m so excited to try these techniques with my children! It literally tells you all you need to know for each project, supplies, technique, how to store and preserve your project, etc. Amazing!

Very through for what I needed. It has helped a lot in my pottery class. They didn't really go into the basic, so I purchased this book. It has filled in the gaps

Good book if you have a bit of knowledge but need some tips and techniques.

So happy with this book. A joy to read. Varied projects and ideas. Gallery of real mixture of different artists work. Good photos. Clear instructions and easy to read text. Would recommend. Favourite item - mint candle holder seen in photo - just love the structure and colour = beautiful. Great job.
