## Description

RiverMaps map books - go with the flow. Each map is oriented so the river flows upward on the page. No more turning your map upside down or twisting your head to read it. Printed on water-resistant paper specially made for all-weather use. The maps measure 8-1/2 x 14 inches much larger than most river guide books. The books have spiral binding and stiff covers that make them lay flat and easy to use. USGS 7.5 topographic maps as the background at the original map scale of 2,000 feet per inch. Additional information is added for river runners, including river mileage, campsites, rapids, and other features of interest. Grand Canyon trip? This is the only guide you need.

*by T***C on Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2015*

Hands down the BEST guide for river trips. Full of information from rapids to geology to historical/archaeological sites. Easy to read and orient yourself to landmarks. Waterproof printing and spiral-bound mean you can just strap it down to the raft and read along as the miles slide by without worrying about putting it away before every rapid and having to pull it out again afterward. Points out all the relevant sites of interest along the river. Take a pencil or "space pen" and make notes right on the maps.I've been a guide for over a decade on rivers all over the US (and a couple abroad). Been down the Colorado through Grand Canyon twice. I bought nearly every guide book for my trips and I not only used this one, I relied on it exclusively for navigation. No other book/guide even comes close. Belknap's is colorful and has some interesting factoids, but isn't as user-friendly for navigation. Grab the "Day hikes from the river" book for the best hike details, but for the river and general information this is one you need.

Absolute must have for Grand Canyon boaters.

*by Z***S on Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2014*

Hands down must have if you plan on floating the Grand. Very detailed topography, mileage, rapid descriptions, camp descriptions, sites to see, geology, wildlife, you name it, this is a must have for every boat you have going. The smaller guide, The Colorado River in the Grand Canyon: A River Runner's Map and Guide to Its Natural and Human History, is a nice supplement as it has more about the Canyon from scientific and historical perspectives, but if you only take one guide, take this guide. Allows you to read and run many rapids even if it's your first time rowing. Gives very detailed descriptions campsites so you don't miss them at the end of the day with the light fading and your strength waning. I actually recommend buying a couple because several copies were lost on our trip in massive white water since you want this handy and it sometimes doesn't get strapped down. Life changing trip, and this guide will help!

    great river guide

*by T***C on Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2011*

Used this on my first trip down the canyon and it was a great asset. Has a good amount of info about the river and many attractions along the way. The fact that it is waterproof makes this guide there is no need to hide it from the occasional splash and the pages did not seem to stick together once wet. The river is broken up into even chunks and they fill each page with info about that section. The problem comes when there is a lot going on in a given section as some attractions may be overlooked as rapid descriptions take precedence and incredible side hikes/attractions may become mere mentions. The book also has links to GPS points with everything in the book potentially making the Canyon brainless when you combine the two.Overall great book for negotiating the river part of the Grand Canyon, locating camps, and knowing where and when to scout rapids, but I would supplement this with another book on the hiking, geology, or land features on the canyon to get the most out of your trip
