The front is a shiny, high gloss finish. Which was a surprise because, from the pictures, I would have thought that it would be a matte finish. But regardless, it looks great! The back is a brushed matte finish. The design is just beautiful, and the sparse openings provided by the slender tree (branch?) design may actually help extend the life of the oil, as it would slow down the evaporation. Different from those wide-open designs you usually see.The center of the locket, without the outer bevel, is exactly the size of a quarter.The locket is quite heavy. Surprisingly so. Looking at it, you would think that it is a solid gold piece. Maybe 14 to 18 karats. But, of course, it's not. It's gold-plated steel. The hinge on the locket doesn't open very far, but far enough to easily install or remove the diffusion disks.The box the product came in is quite lovely as well. Very suitable for gifting. Very high-tone, elegant. Black matte finish with gold leaf design on top. The diffusion discs are incorporated nicely. Nice quality too.The chain is a sturdy, heavy chain, but I don't like where it attaches to the pendant. I would have much preferred just a straight all-around chain. Not in love with the circle and clip design at all. It seems like it could be weak. I will probably switch it out for something better.Diffusion seems to work fine. I put a few drops of Mandarin essential oil on the pad and I can definitely smell it. So, that works!I took off one star because of the chain and because the front of the locket is already a bit scuffed and I just opened the box a few minutes ago. Not sure if it got scuffed in transit or when I was handling it. But, it's a little disappointing, all the same. Especially since I didn't handle it roughly at all.If it wears out quickly, or stains, or develops any other problems, I will update. Love the size of pads, that I can find 24mm refills on amazon.The sunflower deco is smooth, therefore no sharp edges. Chain is smooth.2 strong magnets hold the locket securely closed, so no chance of it opening up & losing the pad.The chain is interesting in that it comes together in the front (as shown on product picture). Ya can unclip the locket if needed. With the connections in the front like this, the locket doesn't slide on the chain thus everything stays front & centered.The reason this is 4 star instead of 5 is because my only concern with the round piece the chain ends connect to & the locket clips on. That 3 point connection piece can twist open easily with the fingers.
