I ordered a 2 pack of medium traps to caprure my escaped rats. 1 got in within 2 hrs, another took 5 days to get, but it worked. In the mean time she came in to eat and drink. :) The best thing about these traps is that the rat can crawl in and out, all over, but the only way the trap would trigger is when the rat touches the pedal. Traps are fairly light weight, so I put a stone on top, so that the trap wouldn't wobble and scare off the rat. Just don't get a small one for rats (it's for mice only) it will smash the rat's tail. I would be worried about tail smashing with medium traps, too, if you have to catch an XL rat. Mine were a weaned baby and a medium rat, so all went well.

I can give this five stars easily, I'm having a mouse infestation problem. I really don't like killing them. I guess I'm getting soft as I get older. I bought a different trap from a well-known company and they were so hard to set and they're being returned. So I ordered this one and the nice thing was that you actually get two pack for less than the other brand. As soon as I pulled this out of the box I didn't need any directions to figure out how to set it. It was so easy to set and the SIZE MADE FOR MICE works. Sitting in my recliner reading and all of a sudden I heard a little thunk. And then I began to hear the noises of a unhappy Mouse as it was trying to figure a way out. It was easy to open and let it out. I noticed that some people included photos of mice with their heads stuck. I thought I wonder if this product has more than one size. Clearly some people were purchasing a trap that was designed for a squirrel sized animal or a rat. I could see in the photos people put on here that some of the mice were able to get their heads through the wire holes. Sure enough I noticed that they had a larger size and as I looked at it I could tell that the holes were larger. So when you purchase this you want the smallest size they have IF you're looking to catch JUST mice. There's no way that they can get their head through the little holes IF you choose the correct size. The Trap is well made for what its purpose is and lightweight easy to pick up and best of all non- chewable. I had bought some other humane mouse traps that were made of plastic and they proceeded to chew and damage those to the point that they didn't work. Not happening with this product. This is the easiest thing to set. AND IF on the other hand you are buying one to catch rats, squirrels or Chipmunks and , you purchase the smallest size to save money you're going to end up LOSING money because you're going to have a damaged trap.

We’ve been having a problem with chipmunks digging in our flower beds, uprooting and destroying recent plantings and burying seeds everywhere. We bought these because they looked simple to set and they are humane. The traps are lightweight but surprisingly sturdy. When the animal steps on the trigger plate the trap releases and shuts very quickly. There is a bar-like piece that drops down across the door on the outside which prevents them from pushing it open and escaping. The trap is set by placing the thin rod on top through the door arm, then securing the end of the rod in a small round ring near the back of the top. To the left of that ring is a spot to secure it without setting the trap, which makes it easier to clean the trigger plate. It would have been nice if there was a small access door, or some way to clean and bait the trigger plate without having to reach all the way in, but in spite of that it’s still an excellent trap. The one thing it really needs is a safe and sanitary way to carry the trap when you’re taking your captive to its new home. We solved this problem by adding two long pieces of wire on each side at the top. We used coated copper electrical wire, simply because it was convenient, but steel wire or any other sturdy wire would work just as well. We bend the two handles out towards the side to be sure they don’t interfere with the operation of the trap when it’s set, then bring them together at the top so we can carry the occupied trap like a purse, with no risk of contacting the animal or any mess it may have made on the trap itself. To release the animal, you grab the corner of the bar across the door and slide it up, then push back on the door arm to open the door. The price was very reasonable for two traps and I am sure they will last us a very long time.
