THE best 3D printing book I've found, by a wide margin. - The title of this book doesn't begin to do it justice. This book is 334 pages and diagnosing print failures doesn't even start until page 124... The preceding pages contain a wealth of information about 3D printers. From using what you've got, making adjustments, recommended tools, upgrades, and a lot of tips to just run your printer and get better prints. I had originally planned to read the book up to where troubleshooting failures began, then skim the rest so I'd know where to go look if and when I had failures. I now recommend reading the book straight through - then keeping it as a handy reference. There is so much good preventative maintenance and just general knowledge embedded in the troubleshooting section that it's well worth reading. Particularly the section on slicer configurations. The book is *almost* exclusively about FDM/FFM printers (those that melt and extrude plastic), but there is a chapter devoted to resin printing. I wouldn't recommend the book for someone working exclusively with resin, but the resin chapter was welcome, because if you're printing with one technology you're probably eyeballing the other. The book is thoroughly illustrated with many photos as you would hope for a book of this nature. What's more, if you send proof of purchase to the author (details in the book) he'll send you a digital copy with high resolution photos you can really zoom in on. This book is absolutely the most helpful book on 3D printing (FDM/FFM) that I have discovered. It is not the best for those who know nothing about 3D printing and have not yet made a print. Some knowledge of the basics is presupposed. Still, if you get a printer you will ultimately want this book. Highly recommended! Review: The book you did not think you needed. - I discovered the book by chance after Googling some issues with a printout. The description of the book gave me the impression that they had compiled a list of examples and what could cause different types of errors in the printouts. Most things can be found on the Internet by searching a bit but having a physical book is still preferable when it comes to encyclopedias. The first impression was good so I ordered the book which was delivered in a short time. This is a structured and well-written book that helps you understand what can affect the quality of your printouts. I believe that the book is as good for beginners as more experienced in 3d printing. The main part of the book gives you a systematic description of mechanical / technical details that may affect your printouts. It explains the properties and basic settings for various types of plastics. The rest of the book can be defined as a reference work. Do you have a print that has failed or is not as good as it used to be? Then you use the book's encyclopedia with pictures to find an in-depth answer to what you need to look for and possibly adjust. On request, you get access to high-quality photos from the book. The book explains briefly and precisely what a slicer does. It goes into depth on some settings that are affected by the dimension of the nozzle you use. Print time vs. quality and / or strength. You also get a few specific tips to provide better support for eg high / thin prints with custom support. You can, for example, set two different infill values on one and the same object. Or print two objects at the same time but with different infill. The book covers the minimum of what you need to know about a slicer. It is Cura that is described but you can use this on almost all slicers. The book covers the entire spectrum with challenges such as mechanical wear, vibrations, lack of cleaning / maintenance, the importance of the right temperatures and the right use of slicers. A book that should come with all printers.

Great info. Solved my problems. Need the Emailed Pics. See amazon description.
The book is well written. Info from technical to practical. Covers dozens of failure mechanisms and how to fix them. There are pictures of 36 different failure types. Out of 330 pages 6 are used for pics. Each picture is about 1in x 3in and of poor print quality. The 1st 2 pics are of "nozzle too close to build plate" and "nozzle too far from build plate". The pictures look identical. Therefore the book is nearly USELESS for identifying YOUR failure; until Sean send you beautiful digital pictures, then it all makes sense. The Amazon description says to email the author and he will send high res pics. Sean did so and even through in some advise on my failure. With legible pics the book is a 5 star.

Fabulous 3D Printing Book
This is by far the best technical book that I've read in the last 5 years. It covers most of the issues that you're likely to have when 3D printing.

Good Book
The author has put tremendous effort into this book. There is a fortune of technical information and the book gives a broad overview of many of the 3D printing problems one may encounter. It is a very good starting point for problem solving and the more experience you gain, the more valuable the book becomes. There are two reasons I've not given it five stars: 1. It doesn't have an index which makes it very difficult for an outright beginner to use. If you are a beginner and have a "blob", then without an index with the word "blob" in it, it is difficult to find the section in the book that deals with "blobs". 2. The images aren't high resolution and when it comes to bed-levelling, it is vitally important to be able to see clearly and close up what a first layer print should look like. Although the author will send high resolution PDF files on request, it doesn't help if you need to solve a problem immediately. An index and high resolution photos would have made this book an outright winner.

Great book
I bought this literally years ago I feel like but it was probably early this year. Anyway this is informative and a great guide for anyone who is just starting out in 3D printing and is experiencing…. Technological difficulties. 🤣 as I was. Anyway a lot of it is probably already outdated, the tech and software is developing so rapidly the prusa machines I have literally print everything perfectly. I have a prusa mk4 and an xl, now, both great machines. I would suggest either. Xl was RIDICULOUSLY expensive. But well worth it and I can print massive things that I can get into all kinds of trouble with 😈 I’m not going to tell you how much it was. Go look it up on the prusa website. 🤣

New to 3D printing? This book will save you a lot of time and money
I am a complete newbie in the 3D printer/printing arena. This book will save you far more in time and money than the $25 it costs you. This review is for the updated 2022 edition. The content is comprehensive and detailed with countless tips and recommendations. Yes, there are scores of YouTube videos out there to help in your particular situation but having this guide at your fingertips will save you hours of browsing & searching. Indexed and illustrated, you can start the resolution to your problem print in minutes. Author even offers to send you via email (with proof of purchase), a high-resolution version of an image contained in the manual should you need the extra detail. This book sits at arm's length to my Ender 3 S1 Pro printer as my go-to reference guide. Highly recommend this book.

A must have for beginner 3D print hobbyists
I read somewhere else before buying that this book is a must have book with all the information you could want. Well, that's mostly true. This book covers all kinds of failures that you will encounter and give great tips and instructions on how to correct and fix them. It also covers much more like the material science of the filaments and best practices to use. I wish the book also covered such things as how to upgrade parts, how to disassemble hotends and extruders, etc. But I guess all of that is really complex and outside of the scope that the author intended. I certainly believe that this book should be bought every time someone buys a 3D printer. It will save you HOURS of headache and frustration.

The essential book for the 3d printing enthousiast, now in color!
This is the second time I have bought this book. I bought the 2020 edition and while it was a worthwhile book, it was really suffering from being in black and white. Sean gave access to high res images to buyers to mitigate this, but this was something that was a bit of a chore to check. The 2022 edition corrects all of this with a surprisingly clean and good color quality paperback. The images are crisp and the colors are on the better side for this type of paper. You most probably will not need to refers to higher res images. The book is also very thorough and well researched, it will definitely help you. A must buy!

Useful but getting outdated
Useful but a little outdated now. The book consists of cheap paper, binding and mediocre printing.

Bien. En tout cas, c'est la seule "Bible" sur le sujet, on n'a pas le choix !
Bien. En tout cas, c'est la seule "Bible" sur le sujet, on n'a pas le choix ! Très "américain", l'auteur ne semble pas savoir que l'Europe existe ! Mais bon...
