This is an identical replacement for our original Kidde-branded CO monitor. The original monitor had reached its "end-of-life" cycle, having lasted approximately 11 years since it was manufactured and put into use. During that time it never gave one false warning, no odd noises or inscrutable light signals. It simply worked everyday without interruption for its entire life. In fact, this model Kidde was so unobtrusive that it took me a day-and-a-half and a step-stool, climbing up and down throughout our house to track down which monitor was emitting the odd little "chirp" we kept hearing (and oddly enough, when it first started it only did it a few times a day around 3:00 a.m., talk about spooky!). Once identified, I had to go to Kidde's website to find out what the issue was because the original monitor was installed as part of our bathroom remodel and we never got an owners manual. Well, mystery solved, as the chirping was informing us that the ten-year lithium battery was exhausted and at 10 years the manufacturer considers the "sensor" that monitors for CO has degraded enough that it should no longer be trusted to give a safety warning, if needed. So I jumped on Amazon and found that Kidde still makes this exact, same CO monitor. They haven't made a single change. The current monitors even fit the original's wall bracket, making the swap, well seamless, not to mention, easy-peasy. Why would I spend good money (they aren't giving these away, they cost a fair amount for what they consist of) for a ten-year-old (or possibly older) design? Well think about it: How many things have you bought that worked perfectly, and did so, while fulfilling its entire design-life. Yeah, that's how I decided. Amazon delivered that afternoon, and I had it installed and operating before my wife even got home from work. And you know what's the best of the outcome from all of this? No more eerie little chirps coming out of a dark hallway at 3:00 a.m. in the morning! Thank you Kidde, and thank you Amazon!

easy to install and like the 10 yr battery

The Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector with 10-Year Battery is a reliable choice for home safety. I love that it’s built exactly like my last Kidde detector, which lasted over 13 years, so I was able to reuse the old mounting hardware without any hassle—no need to redo the setup! The 3 LEDs and replacement indicator are handy for quick status checks, and the test-reset button works smoothly. My only complaint is the price—it’s a bit expensive for what it is. Still, given its durability and ease of installation, I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a long-lasting CO detector.

I had a gas stove and oven in India and brought this CO detector from the US. Good thing I did! Any time I would bake for more than 1 hour, e.g. two items in a row, the CO monitor would go off, and I'd have to open all the doors and ventilate the kitchen. Within a year I replaced it with a different gas stove-oven, and the same CO monitor never went off. I lent the CO monitor to a friend who was using a gas heater in a room where their new born baby was (in India), and the alarm, went off. So they changed their heating system, and got a CO monitor for themselves. I'm so glad I had this CO detector! Brain damage and possible death were certainly prevented.

This is an exact replacement for a 10 year old unit. The old one was beeping as a signal to be replaced. Easy switch out.

I replaced the exact model from 10 years ago. It was great not having to change the mount plate since it is still the same. I recommend this model. No need to worry about changing the batteries. The last one worked for 10 years and 2 months before it alerted me to needing a new one.

I like the ten year battery feature. Good until its not........ many years in the future. Stylish as well, fits anywhere. IMHO, anyone with a gas furnace or heating unit would be foolish not to invest in one of these....... these detectors are the reason I was able to buy new furnace, aye. Understand?
