Great watch for exercise -- a winner
I have owned this watch for a while so that I'm now familiar with many (but not all) of its functions. I originally used it for running. Now I use it for walking/hiking, cardio workouts, HIIT, and strength training. And that is just scratching surface of what it will do (please don't ask about other functions -- there are many I have not used). It holds a charge well and the time it takes to recharge is fast. The watch receives a GPS signal quickly when preparing to walk or run. When saving an exercise activity, it will sync to your smartphone. You can then upload the data to the Garmin online app. You can review the details of your activity when done with the phone app which provides a wealth of information. The heart rate data appears to be reasonably accurate when I have compared its measure of resting rate to that of other devices. Finally, if you get a text message to your phone and the phone is nearby (in your pocket, etc), the text will briefly appear on the watch. While it is not the top of the line Garmin watch, I am hard pressed to find any fault with it. Sure, some Garmin models play music. But on those occasions where I want music, I can either use my phone or my mp3 player.

BEST WATCH
Hands down my new favorite watch! I love everything about it! I do a lot of running and other exercises, but wanted something reliable and cheap so that when it comes to inevitably replacing it I wont have to break the bank. I've tried several fitbits (charge 6, inspire 3, HR) and the google pixel watch 2 too, but none of those compare to this Garmin Forerunner 55. The GPS on this Forerunner 55 is ACCURATE. It's waaaaaay better than the built in GPS on any of the fitbit watches. This watch is so simple to use use and I think that's what I like the most about it. The interface on both the watch and the app tells you so much useful data and lets you organize it any way you want. You can even create your own watch faces and use whatever picture you want!!! I didn't realize that when I bought it, but I freakin love the customization on this watch. The watch is easy to read when it's super bright outside and it's waterproof up to 50m too! My only gripe is that there isn't a strength activity to track which makes sense because this is primarily a running watch. To fix this I just set it to track cardio and turn gps off when I'm tracking a strength workout so that I can still log time, calories, heart rate. Then I just rename the workout to "strength" or whatever.

Exactly what I was hoping to receive
I was unaware of Garmin watches until my nephew told me about them. I was using a Fitbit and was not happy with it. Exercise is an important part of my life and I often found my fitbit to be inaccurate or not task specific. I decided to try the Forerunner 55 ( on the more inexpensive side) and love it. Arrived in 1 day as advertised..It accurately tracks my vitals, my exercise details, my sleep, calories burned. I tailored a watch face that I really like. I edited the fields so that I have the info that I specifically want, rather than being stuck with whatever is provided, as in the case of my fitbit. I even chose the colors for text , icons and backgrounds..so you can really make the watch your own. The Garmin app that you load onto your phone is great. It provides you with in depth detail about so many things. The battery lasts beyond what I was expecting. The watch is durable and often it is either raining or im sweating profusely and the watch is fine with that. Great purchase. I love the watch.

Great, dependable watch except for GPS features
Love this watch. I use it every day. The biggest appeal for me is the fact I do not need a fitness app to utilize it. You CAN use a fitness app, but it also allows you to track workouts strictly on the watch OR export the data off and do your own analysis of the files which is cool if you have a background in that sort of thing. Its comfortable, has a decent battery. After two-ish years, it pretty consistently lasts about 2 weeks or more between full charges. The cable IS proprietary, which is annoying, but replacement ones from third party companies are pretty cheap and work just as well for charging and data transfer. Visually appealing, with a fair number of options for customizing the data displayed and appearance of the clock face. The bad - the GPS is a huge pain in the butt. It takes FOREVER to get a lock, which is really annoying when you've taken some pre-workout and are ready for a run or bike ride. The several minutes of requiring it to wait under clear sky is a huge annoyance to the point where I don't really use the GPS based distance calculations at all. Primarily, use it for heartrate and step count throughout the day / workouts. Decently water resistant for swimming / falling out of kayaks. For the price, the GPS functionality could be better, but other than that I'm happy.

Very pleased
I am beyond pleased with my Garmin Forerunner 55! This is my first Garmin. After having three Fitbits, the last one didn't even last a year before having problems I was more than ready to change products. I am extremely pleased witj the Garmin app! It has a ton of features. My only complaint is on me - I should have studied the products a little more. I didn't realize that the Forerunner isn't a touchscreen. It really isn't that big of an issue though, I will eventually adjust. It is still a very amazing product. At some point down the road I will probably go with a Vivoactive just to have the touchscreen and stay in my price range. I mowed my lawn with my Garmin on for the first time this week and it is by far more accurate than a fitbit. It doesn't pick up the vibrations from the mower and weedeater and count it as false steps. So far I plan on sticking with a Garmin!

Poor user interface and manual.
The user interface is not intuitive and the user manual is useless. If you want to do something simple like keep the heart monitor running, good luck.

Excellent watch at good price
Easy to use and very budget friendly watch. I bought it to record tracks so I can see them on the map later. Now I am using it to reach my sleep, body battery, and stress levels. There are of course a lot of better options out there but far more expensive. I am very happy. One thing is that the strap could be a little bit longer.

Budget-friendly GPS running watch
I've had the Garmin Forerunner 55 for a little over 2 months at the time of writing this review. I purchased to replace a higher end smart device from a few years back (Huawei GT 2 PRO) which had compatibility issues with IOS and poor GPS tracking. I wanted something lightweight, comfortable and easy to use while running. Whether you're running on the road or hitting the trails, the watch provides reliable and precise tracking of your distance, pace, and route. This is essential for tracking your progress and analysing your runs. It includes a heart rate monitor, allowing you to keep an eye on your heart rate during your workouts. impressive battery stating up to two weeks in smartwatch mode and up to 20 hours in GPS mode - I've not scientifically tested but I've been getting a good week and a half or so with regular 6-10k runs in. Sleep tracking also feels accurate when reviewing the data in the app vs how I feel that day. Its nice to be able to keep a track of hours slept/recovery. The Garmin connect app is also the best I've used with lots of insightful data from step tracking, heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, body battery & setting running plans. You can also sign up to challenges and earn badges which adds a nice competitiveness if you have friends/family on the same platform. My personal favourite feature is having a physical start stop button - its a simple one but being able to hit start/stop when getting to a road junction and it working every time vs my old touch screen watch is really nice. Also helps with accuracy of running times. Overall, the Garmin Forerunner 55 is an excellent GPS running watch for those who are looking for a reliable and affordable device to track their runs. With its accurate GPS tracking, heart rate monitoring, customizable display, and extensive training features, it provides all the essential tools to help you reach your running goals. While it may lack some advanced smartwatch features, its impressive battery life and user-friendly interface make it a solid choice for runners of all levels.
