Works as explained.
Product performs exactly as explained in the description. This is NOT a catch-all for all cleaning of your bolt carrier, but it does what it's intended to do.

addition not substitute
After using this the first time on an AR that has shot perhaps 2-300rds my first instinct was to send it back. However, after fiddling with it a little I think I will keep it. As mentioned in other reviews, this is not the be all end all. The only way I would see this used as your only cleaning of the BCG would be if you were at a remote outpost and you just dumped 1-2000rds and just wanted to scrape off enough carbon to insure its not going to bog down. I am going to attach a few pics if I can. Cleaning the carrier: this is OK. Just inserting and spinning will not do it. You do have to wiggle/angle while you are scraping to get the most carbon out. The area all the way to the rear was still caked with carbon around where the firing pic goes through. After using the tool I used my dental pick for about 10sec and got ALOT more caked carbon free. My Concern: Not using a dental tool will allow the BONE user to tamp down the carbon until it impedes function. For my use, the BONE tool plus 10sec with the dental pick will save time overall. Cleaning the bolt: As above, a simple spinning motion will not get it done. However, if you wiggle/angle the bolt as you are spinning, I feel this clears enough carbon that it will never build up enough to cause problems. For me, I am good with this. Firing pin: takes most of the carbon off. As with the bolt, I think the BONE tool takes enough carbon off that, although some is left, you will never have enough build up to cause a problem. For me, this is good enough. Use as a T-handle: I haven't tried this. I do use one of OTIS's pull through cleaning kits, which I really like, and I think if I was putting together a stripped down AR field kit, the BONE could replace the t-handle apparatus and shave a little weight overall. In all, I will keep it. It does seem to save time. IF you are looking to get ready for an inspection and think this tool will get it done, you will be disappointed.

Works as advertised.
I bought this while trying to assemble a complete cleaning system for my AR15. It works exactly as advertised and as expected. It's really just as simple as it looks, but that makes it durable and I expect it to last as long as the AR, or longer. The fit is perfect for cleaning my gun so it seems their production standards are pretty high. If I were to say anything negative, I'd say it seems like the B.O.N.E could be a little cheaper. However since it's a specialty tool, and since it should last many years, it still seems worth the price. Plus Otis has excellent customer service, which is why I chose this cleaning tool over the other tools made my other companies.

Carbon gone
Easy to use. Cleaned out the carbon. Worked for me. Could not clean it this well without it. Rifle returned to perfect operation after a few minutes of cleaning. Stores in grip for field cleaning.
