I cleaned it well, ran a couple of gallons through, unplugging the back on both sides in order to make sure all of the tap water I put in came out before I added my spring water. This is an excellent design for a top loader. It can be a little loud sometimes but it's not intolerable. I rinsed out the well a couple of times to reduce the possibility of any bad taste from a new water appliance.
