Excellent option for Pentair IntelliBrite control on a budget
My installation is not the most common one. I have 2 x Pentair IntelliBrite LED in my pool controller by a regular mechanical on/off switch. To change color you need to toggle this switch a set number of times for the desired color combination. For $400 Pentair will sell you a switch that requires no manual toggle to switch LED colors. I used this Amazon Basic product and save money thanks to Alexa. The process is simple but perhaps not too straight forward, here it is if you are interested. This switch required both phase and neutral. I tried with the type not requiring phase and did not work due to the transformer load. So I ran a phase 14AWG wire to my switch. This switch controls the transformer 110V power in. Once you have phase and neutral + ground installed, the load lead goes back to the power supply to control the lights. If you try now, ON and OFF will work ok. Now with the Alexa app I created a routine using the smarthome - switch - toggle on or off. This routine will power on or off the lights independently from the current switch state. if It is on it will turn it of and viceversa. Next step i create a routine for each color cahnge. For example Party Mode needs 2 on and off toggle. The switch has virtually no latency so i needed to add a delay between toggles so that the transformer will interrupt current at each toggle. I tried Alexa 5 seconds delay and it was too long, so I used Alexa say: one Mississippi. In doing so i created a 1 second delay. If you do not want to hear Alexa counting, you can use set device volume to 0 at the start of your routine. At the end of the routine you can put a set device volume to 5. The routine itself is simple: Trigger with Alexa listen to: "Alexa, Pool lights party mode" then set device volume to 0, toggle switch on, Alexa says one Mississippi, toggle switch off, Alexa says one Mississippi, toggle switch on, set device volume to 5. Done! Party mode is on. I then copied this routines one time and added one toggle sequence for the next color sceme. Then copied and added one toggle....I did this 11 times and now I have all color functions available. I saved $400, all works remotely, the routine were fun to write, it activate with voice, phone app and echo show....super fun.

Works Great
I put this in my kitchen because at times when leaving the kitchen my hands were full. Now I just ask Alexa to turn off the lights when I exit. Very easy to install and immediately was recognized as a new device in the Alexa app.

# Amazon Basics Smart Light Switch Review: The Ultimate Alexa-Native Solution? # Amazon Basics Smart Light Switch Review: The Most Reliable Alexa-Native Single Pole Switch In the rapidly evolving landscape of home automation, the barrier to entry is often technical complexity or prohibitive pricing. The **Amazon Basics Smart Light Switch (Single Pole)** aims to dismantle both obstacles. Designed specifically for the Alexa ecosystem, this switch represents a shift toward "Frustration-Free Setup" and high-reliability performance for the everyday consumer. Having integrated this device into a high-traffic living room environment for extensive testing, I can provide a data-driven analysis of whether this budget-friendly option stands up to premium competitors. ## Technical Specifications at a Glance Before diving into performance, it is essential to understand the hardware parameters: * **Compatibility:** Single-pole use only (not for 3-way setups). * **Connectivity:** 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (no hub required). * **Requirements:** Neutral wire is mandatory. * **Ecosystem:** Works exclusively with Amazon Alexa. * **Dimensions:** Standard wall plate size (included). * **Switch Type:** Physical rocker with tactile feedback. ## Seamless Integration via Frustration-Free Setup The standout feature of the Amazon Basics Smart Light Switch is the onboarding process. Unlike third-party switches that require proprietary apps, account registrations, and cumbersome bridging, this switch utilizes **Amazon’s Frustration-Free Setup (FFS)**. Upon installation, if you select the "Link to my Amazon account" option during checkout, the device attempts to connect to your Wi-Fi network automatically once powered. In my testing, the Alexa app recognized the device within 15 seconds of restoring power at the circuit breaker. For users who prioritize data privacy and want to minimize the number of background apps on their smartphones, this "Alexa-only" ecosystem is a significant advantage. ## Aesthetic Design and Tactile Performance Constructed from high-grade, flame-retardant white polycarbonate, the switch feels robust. It features a traditional rocker design that provides a satisfying tactile "click," ensuring the user knows exactly when the relay has been engaged. One subtle but important feature is the **LED status indicator**. Located at the bottom of the rocker, it is dim enough not to disturb sleep in a bedroom setting but bright enough to locate the switch in total darkness. The included screwless-look wall plate provides a clean, modern aesthetic that blends seamlessly with existing "Decora" style hardware. ## Performance and Voice Command Latency Data-driven users are primarily concerned with latency—the delay between a command and the action. Because this switch is native to the Alexa infrastructure, it bypasses the middle-man servers often used by "Smart Life" or "Tuya" based products. * **Voice Command Latency:** Average response time of <800ms. * **Manual Override:** Instantaneous. * **Scheduling Reliability:** 100% execution rate over a 30-day testing period. The ability to group this switch into "Routines" is where it truly shines. For example, a "Goodnight" routine can simultaneously lock the front door, lower the thermostat, and ensure the Amazon Basics switch turns off the porch lights—all executed with high-precision timing. ## Installation Considerations While the hardware is top-tier, potential buyers must verify their home’s wiring. **This switch requires a Neutral wire (usually white).** If your home was built before the mid-1980s, you may not have a neutral wire in your switch box. Additionally, as a single-pole switch, it cannot be used in a configuration where two switches control one light (e.g., at both ends of a hallway). ## The Verdict: Professional Grade Simplicity ### Pros: * Industry-leading setup speed via Alexa FFS. * No third-party hubs or accounts required. * Highly competitive price point for the build quality. * Exceptional reliability within the Alexa ecosystem. ### Cons: * No support for Google Home or Apple HomeKit. * Single-pole configuration only. **Final Rating: 9.3/10** **Recommendation:** **BUY** if you are an established Alexa user looking for a dependable, no-nonsense smart switch for your home. **SKIP** if you utilize Google Assistant or require a 3-way switch configuration. Easy install, easy to use
EDIT 6/29/26 GMS. It was not hard to install these - I bought two of them. They stopped working after 3 months. It was because the WAP they were connected to had its DHCP turned on, which is wrong. (The router has the DHCP server!) After changing the WAP setting, I reset the switches, set them up again, and all is OK.

Easy setup
Got one of the “returned” ones. Honestly I don’t think the box was ever opened. Works great and easy to install. The wall plate looks a little thick but I think the switch is compatible with a standard cover plate

Read the right reviews!!!??? High failure rate! Software is buggy! Written by a commitee!
3/15/2024 update. Have 7 one way genuine Amazon Basics Alexa/Echo switches in the house. Have replaced 3, going to replace the fourth. The 66+% failure rate dramatically increases the real cost of ownership. This with the buggy Echo Alexa software turning lights on at random makes it a pain. Definitely a software problem, not hardware as it happens across multiple brands of swiitches. The only common denominator is the app/software. *********************************** The reviews here are mixed.....literally! As with all Amazon reviews where the seller is selling completely different items under the same listing, the reviews for different items are homogenized together. This creates wrong or misleading reviews. To add to the confusion single pole and 3 way switches are completely different animals. These should be sold separately to avoid the mess that the reviews are on these two completely different items. And yes you can have more than a 3 way installation. That said, I purchased, and am only reviewing the single pole version of this switch. That is, there is only a single switch that controls a single outlet, light, or group of lights. If there are any other switches that control or affect that single outlet, light, or group of lights YOU BOUGHT THE WRONG SWITCH! If you don't know what a Nuetral wire is, ask someone to help you before you purchase. Do not pass GO, do not collect $200!! If you purchase 3 or less of these switches Amazon will add them automatically to your Echo/Alexa account and save you a lot of time and effort (highly recommended)! For some reason If you purchase 4 or more, you are on your own. I would recommend that if you are buying 4 or more, break it into multiple orders and save yourself some time and hassle and let Amazon do the programming work. Connecting is easy. HOWEVER YOU CAN BE KILLED! White to White, Green to Green (or bare copper). Black to the wire with electricity on it (the "hot" wire, LINE side), and Red to the LOAD (single outlet, single light, or group of lights). Use the enclosed labels so if someone needs to rewire in the future they will know what is what. Works as advertised, NO DRAMA! DRAMA IS AVAILABLE if you buy the wrong switch for your application. Please figure out if you have the wrong switch before leaving a review. Most of the "bad" reviews appear to be due to purchasing the wrong switch, which is partially the sellers fault for combining listing. This is a review, not a tutorial. I neither received nor asked for incentives of any kind for this review. Update: For full honesty, I had to exchange 1 unit out of 7 purchased. The wireless connection between the switch and my Echo units became unreliable. I believe a nearby Nest thermostat or SimpliSafe touchpad may have been interfering, but another switch 36 inches away did not have a problem. Replacing the switch did correct the problem. As more IOT devices are installed this may become a bigger problem. *************************************** I neither received nor solicited recompense in any form for this review. I am a retired computer/network/telephone repair technician with more than 35 years experience. I have taught all these subjects at my employers in-house trade schools in addition to my field experience. Currently I repair/restore guitars and guitar amplifiers to support my guitar collecting habit. As such I perform electronics repair as well as some woodworking involved in repairing guitars an amplifier cabinets. I attempt to repair most items if they fail out of warranty, so my reviews may contain information you will not not find in other reviews. Solicitations to change or "enhance" reviews are always reported to Amazon without exception. Free items or money are joyfully accepted, THEN IMMEDIATELY REPORTED TO AMAZON!! THANK YOU!!!! The observations are my own without any outside influence or input. Your experience may differ from my own! Do your own research and comparisons prior to purchasing, don't rely solely on my observations. I recommend purchasing only from Prime sellers as much of my experience with "marketplace" sellers has been negative. Often drop shipping from China to the USA, and reshipping so it has a USA postmark. That said, do your own research prior to purchasing any products from the Internet!?

Easy to install and connect to Alexa
If you're comfortable working inside a crowded electrical box, this is fairly easy to install. If not, find a friend who can do it or an electrician. It requires a neutral wire in the box, which was not a problem for me. Setting it up to work with Alexa went well, except that scanning the QR code on the instruction manual didn't work; I had to scan the QR code on the face of the switch. It looks like a standard "Decora" style switch, but it doesn't work the standard way. Push the bottom part of the switch to turn the lights on; put the bottom part again to turn them off. Pushing on the top of the switch does nothing. Not a problem for me, but if you're used to the standard push on the top part to turn on and the bottom part to turn off, it might be inconvenient. So far, Alexa had done a perfect job of turning the lights on at sunset and off at sunrise.
