The cover smelled very little, but I let it air for a couple of hours and was able to put it on my bed right away. I didn’t want to prewash it because I had messed up previous waterproof covers drying them in the dryer. Anyway, I placed it and I was a little concern with the fitting in the middle but the stretchy strap is great. I had to hustle a little bit because I have a reclining bed frame and my mattress is attached with magnets, but I was able to pass the strap through the middle and hook it to the foot of the bed as shown in the instructions and voila, the cover is neatly snugged to my mattress. The material seems to be light but durable, the price was fair, the top is soft, the back is plastic material for the waterproofing but it doesn’t make a noise.
