I have seen numerous versions of this story on film, each one a little different. The one that most closely follows the book is the Sir Patrick Stewart version produced by TBS in the 90s.

Funny, I have seen many movie adaptations yet had never read the story. I bought the paperback book curious to know how the actual story reads. First, I had no idea it was such a short story. A mere 100 pages or so. So with that it is a very quick read. Entertaining, certainly. I liked having read it since it is a classic and so many movies have used this theme. So I would recommend to read it to read it. For all the feels and thought provoking theme, you can get that from any movie adaptation. I don't think I have ever preferred a movie over a book, but in this case the various movies do well with expanding on Dickens' classic.

A nice pocket sized paperback you could take anywhere. And I do this frequently, as this story puts me in the holiday spirit like The Ghost of Christmas Present

I read this every year. It is short and beautifully written. There are a few more things in it than all of the film adaptations, and I think it gives more of a sense of the gradual realisation of Scribe as to the error of his ways, rather than his just being frightened into it at the end. A classic amongst classics.

初めて原文で、ディケンズの本を読みました。 クリスマスシーズンだし、子どもも読むような本だから大丈夫かな、と… 甘かった！子供も楽しめる本ながらも、豊富な語彙と豊かな表現力、 もちろんその中には19世紀の英語独特の言い回しや語彙が含まれているのでしょうが、 それなりの英語力がないといけないものでした。 とはいえ、英語力が素晴らしくなくても、十分楽しめるストーリーです。 金儲けの仕事をけちけちする傍ら、人とふれあうことの歓びをすっかり忘れてしまった 主人公の男性。クリスマスイブの夜、7年前に亡くなった同僚の幽霊に警告されます、 「このままではお前も、俺のような悲惨な死後を送ることになる。 手遅れになる前に、お前の生きざまを考え直してくれ！」と。そして、3人のクリスマスの幽霊が、 彼のもとに送られてきます。 彼が幽霊によって見せられた世界とは… この作品でも、ディケンズが描きたかったイギリスの美しさが、描かれています。 貧しい労働者階級と、経済的に恵まれていなくても 彼らが持つ美しさと、幸福…人とのつながりの中でもたらされる幸福です。 クリスマスの幽霊が主人公に見せたのも、そんな素敵な世界でした。 人はなかなか変われないけれど、クリスマスならこんな奇跡も起きるかも、です。
