They will release tannin's into your water it is recommended that you boil for at least a short period to ensure that any bacteria, fungus or hitchhikers don't make it into your tank. This is a great product, they threw in some small bonuses that I appreciated, a small sample of shrimp food and a smaller piece of Cholla wood were included. My Bristlenose definitely enjoy having access to this product. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ AMAZING *by G***E on January 8, 2018* I received 4 pieces and some free shrimp food my shrimp LOVE it. Just remember to boil first so it doesn't leech tons of tannins I to your water (it will still leech some but it's actually really good for your shrimp anyway and it won't be very noticable) I have more peace of mind knowing the shrimp will be able to graze on this and don't have to compete for food.
