## Description

Double heavyweight 180 gm vinyl LP repressing of this album from the rock superstar housed in a faithfully recreated LP sleeve containing all the elements of the original release. The River is the fifth studio album, and the first double album by Bruce Springsteen. The album was released on October 17, 1980. Rolling Stone ranked it at number 253 on their list of the greatest albums of all time. The sources of The River go back into earlier parts of Springsteen's recording career. "Independence Day", "Point Blank", "The Ties That Bind", "Ramrod", and "Sherry Darling" were leftovers from his previous album, Darkness on the Edge of Town, and had been featured on that 1978 tour, as had parts of "Drive All Night" as a long interpolation within "Backstreets." "The River" had premiered at the September 1979 Musicians United for Safe Energy concerts, gaining a featured spot in the subsequent documentary No Nukes. Originally, the album was to be a single set entitled The Ties That Bind and released in late 1979. Springsteen added darker material after he'd written the title track. Indeed, The River became noted for its mix of the frivolous next to the solemn. This was intentional, and in contrast to Darkness, for as Springsteen said during an interview, "Rock and roll has always been this joy, this certain happiness that is in its way the most beautiful thing in life. But rock is also about hardness and coldness and being alone... I finally got to the place where I realized life had paradoxes, a lot of them, and you've got to live with them."

Review: Great quality - Great album, nice quality.
Review: The River Is A Soaring And Uplifting Epic Triumph! - As Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band successfully entered the 1980’s in full force and with absolute confidence, they released their next ambitious landmark masterpiece that brought them even further into the music mainstream in 1980 and redefine The Boss’ standing in the music world. The River is their sweeping double album (and 2-CD!) blockbuster which follow up on the themes and sounds of The E Street Band that highly showcase a robust set of mid-tempo rock, multidimensional solos stories of dissolution and hope in the working class, as well as of the struggle that are often dealt with. With a sweeping track set filled with both personal stories and personal outcomes abeited with high authority and solid performing, the tracks include Independence Day, Point Blank, the 8-minute plus Drive All Night, Ramrod, Fade Away and the title track, while the rest also include more light-hearted or high rocking classic hits including Sherry Darling, I’m A Rocker and Stolen Car. Another high mark for the album is the smash hit Hungry Heart, as it became Springsteen’s first Top Ten hit single, which combine a rollicking musical track with a more sober typical theme which have made it a Number One hit across the Atlantic. As one of the most highly ambitious and well-publicized rock albums of the 1980’s, The Boss and the band pulled no punches as they gradually showcased a masterful piece of music making that became noted for it’s mixture of optimistic outlooks, darker mat- erial, reconciliation, overcoming fears and a better tomorrow, as the elements help contribute to it’s power and energy. With an excellent combination of light-hearted pop-rock, solid rock and roll, dramatic songwriting and occasional humour in a few songs, this towering achievement highly well-showcase The Boss in a audio-driven wide-screen style form. Hailed as another of his greatest achievements, The River is another powerful testament that will always remain just as timeless as ever.
