I bought this egg cracker out of curiosity since it was inexpensive. The device is most excellent as it is simple and just works. Following the recommendation of several reviewers here, I have had great success by holding the egg in my palm with my finger tips keeping the device in contact with the egg. Pulling the knob up about 20 mm (3/4 in) and letting go produces the crack. Do this twice without moving the device to propagate the crack all around the egg. Carefully remove the device and gently lift the top of the egg. I am able to create a clean cut in the egg shell most of the time this way.

It works but not sure it's really needed

Being from the UK a soft boiled egg has always been a big part of my weekend breakfast menu. While searching for a Christmas treat I spotted this egg topper set - a little skeptical I purchased to try out. Well, colour me impressed. The set itself contains more than just the topper, also two spoons and egg holders. They're neat and easy to clean - but for me the real winner is the topper. Though it takes a bit of practice and a bit of strength to use, once mastered it does an excellent job cutting the top portion neatly in two. A perfect spherical hole to sip your toasted soldiers into!! Highly recommended to anyone who enjoyes a soft boiled egg from time to time.

I bought this and didn’t know if it would work , but you know it’s a great little cutter , it does the job!!!
