However, that's all it will do -- it does not pass data -- and there are better alternatives.There is another mini-to-micro adapter, by Startech (Micro USB To Mini USB 2.0 M/f Adapter), that Amazon also sells, which is much better. I have one of each.This adapter has a poorly made connectors on both ends, but particularly the micro USB plug, which doesn't connect securely to my device (an Android phone). The mini USB jack on the other end of the adapter also feels loose when connected. Further, this adapter is longer than the Startech adapter, and it falls out of my phone if I pick the phone up. By comparison, the Startech adapter is shorter and has much better fitting connectors at both ends.Also, the Startech adapter passes power and data, while this one only passes power. You may never need the data capability, but why pay more (or even the same) for a more poorly constructed device with less functionality?The main difference between the mini and micro USB connectors (aside from their size) is that micro USB connectors have springs in the plug to keep the connectors firmly attached, while mini USB connectors have the springs in the jack. When the springs begin to fail after many connect/disconnect cycles, the connection becomes unreliable. It's more convenient, as well as way more cost-effective, to replace the plug (on the end of the cable) than it is to replace the jack (which is built into the device: cell phone, camera, or MP3 player). So the micro USB plug is probably better than the mini for chargers, which are frequently connected and disconnected. I wish the manufacturers had figured this out before I bought a bunch of mini USB chargers for my phones, for home and car use.That being said, there's really no excuse for the poor quality micro USB connector in this adapter. Perhaps some samples have a better connector (other reviewers of this adapter have commented that it fits snugly in their device), but mine is definitely substandard. I gave it 2 stars only because it does work, after a fashion, albeit unreliably. ### ⭐ Be Careful About Using This *by N***N on Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2011* I purchased a handful of these as I had just moved from a mini-USB phone to a micro-USB phone. The product seems to hold-together well (took some effort to open them, see below), and they make good contact with the mini-USB cables I have, though I'm not jostling these around so I can't say for sure. My bigger issue is the internal craftsmanship.I plugged a mini-USB cable into my computer, then put this adapter on the cable. WITHOUT plugging in my phone, my computer gave me a warning about how the USB device was not operating properly. This confused me as I hadn't plugged in a device, but when I removed the adapter from the USB cable, the message went away. Intrigued, I opened the adapter (pried apart the two halves with a flat blade). Inside, I saw that they had little wires running from the mini-USB port to the micro-USB port, soldered to the individual pins of each port. The problem was, some of the pins had also been soldered together! This meant that the data lines were connected to each other, which caused the computer to think some device had been connected. While my computer doesn't appear to have been damaged, this was a little scary to say the least. I was able to separate the connected pins with the blade, and once they were no longer making contact the computer stopped complaining about an unknown device. As a plus, the repaired adapter also now worked as a synch adapter too (though I do just use a true micro-USB cable for that, just seems safer).I purchased 5 of these and 2 (maybe 3, couldn't quite tell) had pins that had been soldered together. Now, as long as the +5V and GND lines (the two on opposite sides of the adapter) don't cross, I assume these are safe to use (its because of how USB works, not going to go into that here). However, I would recommend that unless you're handy, don't even bother. The potential to save a few bucks isn't worth damaging your computer or phone. ### ⭐ Mini USB charger to Micro USB Charger CONVERTER *by J***S on Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2010* It will charge my EVO but causes application list to open and freeze. I have a diff. cord that only works for charging but this one opens Nav. app and if you close it and lock screen it will open again in a few seconds as if phone thinks it's connected to car dock. Some of these cheap usb cords seem to have this in common. When I unplug usb the phone must be rebooted before anything else will work correctly. Don't buy this!From my research the same manufacturer makes all these and diff. people package and sell them at retail prices. Amazon had them for $1.51 ea. and radio shack had them for $14.00 ea. you do the math. I purchased one 3.5mm extension from Radio shack lately and now the wires where they go into connector have shorts causing extension not to work unless you hold cable a certain way. This started within a few weeks of purchase. My point is most of this stuff comes from the same China manufacturer and places like RS mark it up. Doesn't mean it is better Q because you paid more.
