You would still remove the old one and do a complete replacement. **Q: What is the difference between this model and the 9417dn? my the light portion of my 9417dn died, so this would be a swap out.** A: Don't know. But the most likely reason that the light 'died' is a thermal fuse in the neutral of the pigtail. It's a little tricky to replace, but probably easier than the whole fixture. **Q: this fan has sone level at 4.0 on box, how can i lower it, can i insulate with approved liner?, on the inside, no glue just stick pins** A: The sone rating is 4.0. We only recommend the installation as shown in the instructions. (no need to reply if you are not from broan)** A: i HAVE INSTALLED MAYBE A DOZEN OF THESE OVER THE YEARS. You can have tle light controlled separately from the switch if you want and have the ability. The thing is if you turn the light on and the unit gets hot, the fan will turn on by itself. The last one I installed, I have the light and thw switch on the same circuit. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quality product with multiple functionality. Two thumbs up! *by S***N on Reviewed in Canada on 23 February 2019* Installed the fan/light/heat lamp over 2 years ago and it still works like a charm. This is a must have for all bathrooms. Not only does it ventilate the humidity out when taking hot showers/baths, it lights up the room and keeps you warm when you come out during not so warm weather so you don't have to turn on your heater. Installation was easy. Just need an opening big enough to house the unit and it sits in place with springs if I remember correctly. I chose to use a transparent heat lamp bulb vs the traditional red heat lamp bulb, which I think is easier on the eyes, no need to transition from dim red lighting back to normal lighting. Only comment is that the fan is a bit noisy.
