## Description

ENTER THE VILLAINS! In the war between Superman and Batman, all the heroes have chosen sides. For five years, former friends and allies have fought bitterly, with casualties on both sides. Now, at an impasse, both Batman and Superman realize that to gain ground in their battle, they’ll have to do the unthinkable—recruit their former enemies to attack their former friends. As Batman allies himself with villains like Flash’s Rogues who share his code against killing, Superman makes a deal with the only man to ever break the Bat. But to draw Batman out of hiding, will Bane cross a line that even Superman’s allies can’t overlook? The world of the hit videogame INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US approaches its final conclusion, from writer Brian Buccellato (DETECTIVE COMICS) and artists including Mike S. Miller (BATMAN: ARKHAM UNHINGED) and Tom Derenick (SECRET SIX).

Review: Terrific First Volume for Injustice's Final "Year" - Injustice's final year kicks off to a strong start with the first of three volumes. Buccellato's writing makes a major improvement over the mediocre "Year Four" story arc where the Injustice Regime and Insurgency were forced to temporarily team up against the Olympian Gods. The series has never been as strong as it was in the first two "years" when the book was being helmed by Tom Taylor, but Buccellato does a strong job tying up the last loose ends and setting the state for the Year Five finale which directly leads into the events of the video game's story mode. Year Five is mostly the year of the villains as the numerous baddies under Superman's thumb in the events of the game are brought into the fold. While Batman appeals to any villains with some semblance of honor (such as the Rogues and Deathstroke) while Bane offers his services to Superman. While Supes starts bringing in villains who aren't as honor-bound as Batman, the rest of the Regime is left struggling to justify the increasingly erratic actions of their leader. Barry, Hal, and Diana all wonder aloud about the course the world has taken and whether or not Superman declaring himself leader of the entire free world is the best outcome of their efforts. Meanwhile, Batman and what is left of his Insurgency are forced to decide if they are fighting against the inevitable at this point as each of their plans have failed to take down the Regime. What helps this volume really stand out is the great character interactions and quieter moments. The bombastic and over the top Year Four (and second half of Year Three for that matter) have been a bit lacking of these better character moments sadly, so it is nice to see Buccellato emulating Taylor on that note instead of focusing all his energy on large scale action. I'm also glad to see the previous two years' method of forcing the Regime and Insurgency onto the same temporary side against a larger threat (Trigon's duel with Mr. Mxyzptlk, the Olympian Gods and their invasion) doesn't repeat itself here. The book gets back to the fight between Superman and Batman instead of finding outside influences that can extend their conflict. All in all an awesome first volume.
Review: Year five keeps things fresh and moving forward! - With each year of the injustice series, there is always a new element and year five keeps that up! I've been so glued to this series! Year five volume 1 introduces a lot of key villains and they are used in a great way! There is always so much goin on in these books but they have been told in a great way! If you have been readin up to year four and don't know if you should take it to year five, rest assured, go for it! Things get taken to a new level!
