I use this in my homemade lotion recipes and I've never had a problem with it going bad, and I keep it at room temp for months. If I use more water than oil in a recipe, or I add a lot of floral water, I will add Bulk Leucidal SF Natural Preservative along with the Optiphen Plus for extra protection. I've had my lotions hold up for 9 and 10 months without any problems because of these two preservatives, but can't comment on how it does any longer than that because my lotions don't last that long, as I have 3 daughters (ages 4,10,&13), and I make several pounds of lotion when we run out and 9-10 months is the longest one bottle lasted, only because I had body butter and lotion bars at the same time and the girls liked using those first because they liked the scent I used. I also make my own body wash, shampoo, foaming hand soap, conditioner, and hand sanitizer, and the Optiphen Plus seems to do great with all of those except the foaming hand soap. I've had to buy Germaben II for my foaming hand soaps or they go bad quickly and the color goes milky after a few days and it dries your hands out and the feel of it is off after a few days. Other than that, Optiphen Plus is my go to and it's a staple in all of my homemade products. I don't think I'll ever be without it, especially since everything I make is homemade, from household cleaners, to bath and body products.
