StarTech USB A to USB Motherboard 4-Pin Header F/F 2.0 Cable, 6" (USBMBADAPT)

This little gizmo lets you use an external USB device inside your case. If that's what you want to do, it works like a charm! Why would you want to do that? In my setup, I built a FreeNAS box booting off a USB stick (with the real drives dedicated to network-shared storage). I could use one of the USB ports in the back just fine, but mounting it internally is a little slicker-looking, and means there's no risk of breaking my server because someone unplugged the stick to transfer some photos or something, or because it banged into something and got dislodged. Definitely a nice-to-have rather than a must-have, but it works well and I like it. (It helps that in my case, it reaches just far enough to let me slide the USB key into the racks on the case bottom which held the HDD slides; much better than hanging in air.) I did have to reseat it once after some major work inside the case; it wasn't visibly off the pins, but the system couldn't read the drive; a simple re-seat did it, but in a high vibration environment this would be a worry. (Or if you go to LAN parties a lot or something; you might want to secure it mechanically, or with a locking solution on the contact pins.)

Startech has yet to ever disappoint me. I know cables are pretty basic but startech offers all sorts of cables. Particularly very short ones that help with cable management. This particular item works as advertised so far and seems well constructed just like anything else I've gotten from them over the years.

I have installed this dongle with no issues into my server build. I'm running unraid on that system which boots from a USB drive. I didn't want the USB stick to be tampered with from the exterior of the case and decided to use this so there USB stick could be concealed within the case. So far have I've been running with this attachment for a year with no issues. Would certainly recommend for anyone else that needs to have USB-A access within their case.

We use these in a server build for our customers. In this build we need to install an internal dongle (license code plug). These work great and provide a nice finished look. They are a little expensive for what they are, but they are well made, look good and just work.

I like the four input pins they work well with the new style Arduino kit leads. I am testing a wind generator with a full bridge rectifier and capacitor. It is much more difficult than I thought initially to power a cell phone with wind vs solar. I have used female USB connectors in the past with solar. However, they were very inexpensive and did not operate when we had good solar. This device seems much more user friendly.

This device works for exactly what it was purposed for very well. I have discovered some issues with trying to use a flash drive and this to create a small internal SSD for low end uses. When installing an OS on the flash drive, you either get errors during the install or kernel panics/crashes when running the OS. I have tried several flash drives and multiple OS install discs (as well as 3 different OS) and I get the same results every time. I have yet to test on a different machine extensively, so it could potentially be the machine I was using. Just keep in mind when using this if you get a lot of kernel panics or crashes, this may be the cause.

This is a great little F/F cable for adding internal USB ports to a motherboard's free USB headers. I used a couple of these to mount an Boot OS thumb drive for my NAS box and for adding Bluetooth/WiFi to my LAN Box so all these components were on the inside. That being said take care on your installation and align the labeled port correctly to your motherboard headers as not to damage and USB devices you plug in. I attached a MoBo USB header pinout image to the product info as a reference to make sure you do it right.

Hear is a clever little device that did exactly what I was needing. I used this in a HTPC build. I had the USB IR receiver that I didn't like lying outside the pc. So I drilled a small hole in the front of the case, mounted the IR receiver up against the hole and plugged the USB plug into this adapter. Worked Perfectly! You get the idea. This allows you to use devices with normal USB plugs and plug them in directly to the motherboards USB headers. Great device!

Veillez bien à le brancher correctement en respectant la polarité de votre connecteur sur votre carte mère sous peine de provoquer des dégats à celle-ci ou à votre appareil connecté dessus. Vous avez généralement 2 ports usb disponibles par connecteur sur votre carte mère, vérifiez l'image que j'ai postée pour connecter ce câble en haut ou en bas sur votre connecteur tout en respectant la polarité. @+
