Very Good, with Small Flaws
Original Review: Excellent kit, everything needed to work on the book. Good quality components and totally worth it for beginners, no sense penny pinching and going through the ordeal of sourcing all of these as a first timer. Edit: After getting half way through the book experiments and using the kit more, I stand by my original review, this kit is outstanding for a newbie starting out. But there are some flaws, I will describe 2 of them here: 1. One of the early experiments in the classic "make a battery with a lemon" experiment, and it requires a copper electrode and a galvanized steel electrode. These can be acquired as coated screws in most hardware stores, but they are not included in the kit. No mention is made of this anywhere so I spent a good 20 minutes trying to figure this out. 2. One of the experiments requires a 10(uf) ceramic capacitor. This is not included, there is only a 10(uf) electrolytic capacitor. This may seem dumb, but for electrolytics unlike ceramics have polarity, so which way do you fit them in? This is not covered because the book uses ceramics where it doesn't matter. If you have a couple of these in your circuit and you are a newbie, it will take a while to figure out. It strikes me that some compromises were made without explaining them to the user. Overall its a great kit, I went ahead and bought the next one as well (Make: More Electronics) so this is not a deal breaker. But it would be great if these compromises could be explained on the product page so I can acquire all I need at once. I am further shipping all this stuff home to South America so doing the shopping piecemeal as I discover what parts are missing is expensive and slow. Customer service is OUTSTANDING. Just make clear whats not in the pack guys.

Great Kit - Buy a better multimeter
I spent hours searching for components on the sites listed in the book and got nowhere. Some of the tools in the kit are not great quality, but glad they were included and cost of the kit was likely a factor. The multimeter he uses (photo on pg 5) is a BK precision 388B and is $175. Ouch. But, the multimeter in the kit doesn't have the basic settings you will need to do all of the experiments. Also, the soldering iron has a screw near the tip which will make it challenging to find a stand that will work. I recommend getting the kit first and then looking for a stand to avoid having to do a return. Great carrying box and super convenient to have all the parts you need clearly labeled. Have fun!

Amazing kit
I'm extremely pleased with the service and quality of the hardware learning kit. As a beginner, I found the kit's selection of parts to be invaluable in understanding the hands-on lessons in Mr. Platt's book. The kit's careful selection of components allowed me to explore and compare different parts, which greatly improved my understanding and confidence. The kit's value and quality are well worth the price, and I appreciate the convenience of receiving all the parts at once. I would highly recommend this kit for learners of any age.

Convenient pack that goes with book
Seems that it's a bit pricey for what you get, but it does come with a solder, multimeter, and container. I bought both kits, the 1st and the 2nd, and managed to fit everything but the two tools mentioned above into the same kit container. So there's that. It's supposed to be everything you need for the first few chapters. Mine was missing a few things, but when I contacted the company, they sent the missing items and a few others as a bonus. That was pretty cool, and enough to send it from four stars to five. Sure, there are cheaper kits out there, and I bought a few for my "outside" projects (projects outside of the book), but they are just parts, sometimes containers - and very random. Overall, I'm glad I got this set, and the book that accompanies it (or vice versa)... helps to make it easier for a procrastinator like me.

Outstanding Kit
This is an outstanding kit with high quality materials and great components. This is my 3rd kit with this company and each kit just got better and better. You will be able to complete all the exercises in the book with no problem, and the customer service is impeccable. You will not be disappointed with the kits, and I hope they will develop another one in the future. A great company that communicates well and cares about their customers!

You Pay for Convenience
When I purchased this kit around Christmas, it was priced at $134.99, and I now see it selling for $119.99. I'd strongly suggest waiting for a sale where you can snag it with a 25% discount. At that discounted price, the expense feels much more reasonable, especially when you consider the quality of the tools and parts you receive. While the quality of the tools and parts is adequate for working through the experiments in the accompanying book, โMake: Electronics Third Editionโ โ you're definitely paying a premium for that convenience at the regular price. Additionally, the tools and parts case I received was damaged but thankfully didn't impact its ability to hold the contents. Ultimately, while functional, this kit is best purchased when discounted.

Easy way to start
For a while I have tinkered with learning electronics. Learned a bit from playing with Arduinos but never had a deep understanding of what I was doing. I finally bought a copy of Make: Electronics by Charles Platt. Looking over all the components to do the experiments in the book, it was going to be a massive chore to find all the right ones. From experience, I know most of the time parts come in a small baggie cryptically marked what is inside. After a while all the baggies get mixed up and keeping them organized is hopeless. Getting this kit was probably the best solution to all these issues. Every component is what is needed for the experiments for the first part of the book, clearly marked, and everything contained in a plastic case with room for more components to be added later. When I have a few moments, I can open the book and the case for some experimentation. When I am done, everything is put away. The multimeter and other equipment is not fancy, but sufficient for someone just starting to learn. Overall I am pleased with the kit. It saved a lot of time getting parts piecemeal and I feel like it saved money.
