It has a smell of "putrescent whole egg solids", which is 20.5% of the active ingredients. Seriously, it's good stuff; I'm reordering for my 6th season. **Q: How bad does it smell?** A: Fairly bad, but not so much at first...just hang them 12-15 feet away from your outside living areas and doors, and you won’t be bothered...it starts trapping flies fast but after a couple of weeks in really hot weather, they stink and it’s time to dump them and put in a fresh packet! **Q: Does this attract biting horseflies / deer flies?** A: I got it specifically for a biting horsefly problem. Before I used it, I would be chased all over my garden by horseflies. After, I was able to garden in peace. The jug filled up fast! **Q: How long does each pouch last?** A: The pouch gets diluted with the water, it's the smell that attracts the flies. It lasts for at least 1 month if not more. Also depends on the no of the flies, coz if the container is too full within less time, it's better to change the liquid. Don’t place too close though, it stinks. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Draws a horrendous amount of flies... *by B***D on June 15, 2022* I bought this bait after having great success with the Victor M380 Reusable Fly Trap and the bait that comes with it (a great product for it's purpose as well). I just wanted to see if I could find a cheaper effective refill for the container. This stuff smells just as horrible and draws just as many flies. I live where the weather gets hot in the summer months and the trap fills in a week or two. However, on cooler days it doesn't seem to draw as many. Just be patient. It works when it matters. Having an inexpensive and effective replacement for the bait is great. For those reviewers complaining about the fly larvae, I expect that's normal and any hatched flies will be unable to escape the container, just like every other fly that enters the trap. Another word of advice, wear gloves if you are going to empty and reuse the trap.
