The book by itself might not have sufficient knowledge required to pass exam
There are some errors in the book's QA section (i.e. anonymous functions can be defined declaratively as attributes) and some of the code samples provided could have been made more relevant in solving real world scenarios. I found blogs and articles (HTML5Rocks, Sitepoint, MDN) that goes deeper and with better explanations for some of the topics, e.g. html sectioning, custom events, web worker etc.

It does the job
Being grounded in JavaScript/jQuery but having not looked at any of the new HTML 5 technologies, I found this book covered all the necessary points of the new HTML 5 technologies that I needed to know in order to pass the exam. If you are COMPLETELY new to JavaScript programming, then I would suggest you need to supplement this book with in-depth JavaScript tutorials. You need to be confident that you have a very real grasp of JavaScript basics - scoping, different ways to wire-up event handling are two MUST UNDERSTAND concepts - and also jQuery - the de facto JavaScript toolkit. I crammed through this book in a day and took the exam and scored well above passing.

Very Precise!!!
More precise in delivery and simple in nature. That is all you need to pass the exam.

Weak on Javascript - the most important exam topic
Because the exam covers such a wide range of technologies (HTML5/Javascript/and CSS3), this book glosses over many concepts. While this book provides an introduction to these technologies in most chapters the book does not cover important concepts in sufficient depth to pass the exam. In particular, Delorme Chapters on Objectives 1.5 and 1.6 do a very poor job of laying out the features of Javascript. The Javascript language has type, scoping and inheritance issues that are unique to its syntax. Programming in Javascript requires a solid understanding of these issues. I would recommend Dane Cameron’s book “HTML5 Javascript & JQuery” as a much better alternative to Delorme. Among the many Javascript outages in this book are: • === operator • Call and apply methods • This keyword – while covered on page 91 needs a great deal more explanation • Closures I would have preferred more and better coverage of the new HTML5 elements and less coverage of the many graphical elements that while interesting are not that important for the exam. I have found other “Exam Ref” books much more useful in preparing for exams than this book. I usually review the material in these books in the hours immediately before the exam to make sure I have a familiarity with all the topics which an exam will cover. I would recommend alternative summary materials for the Javascript portion of the exam.

Great for beginner but will need more
I do like this book, it was great on explaining with examples on the HTML portion, CSS but when it comes to JavaScript I feel that another book will be needed to get a more thorough explanation and examples.
