Both are true, but if you are careful with handling it, and properly clean the surface, it should be a solid install. Once I received mine I added my own Scotch outdoor mounting tape on top of the provided tape after removing the film. Then mounted it onto my front lip. The front lip I have doesn't have a full surface below so I was due to add more mounting tape to keep it in place. It gives the lip a larger look and will it protect? I doubt it but I like that it acts as an additional guard.
