The BK16 is a fair utility knife, I don't like the flat grind instead of the original sabre grind. I have both knifes and don't use the 16. The 10s sheath is one inch longer. **Q: Without considering handle materials and sheaths, what can this knife do that a BK2 cannot do? (I'm a Becker/Camillus Campanion user.)** A: Frankly, the knives are similarly sized (I have both this and a Campanion) and have similar capabilities. The Crewman is lighter, though only by about 4 ounces, and a slightly thinner blade Campanion is 1/4 inch thick while Crewman is 3/16 inch think that alters the balance in the hand. To me, the Crewman feels livelier. I have found it the Crewman easier to maneuver and work on finer tasks. The Campanion has about a 1/4 inch shorter blade. The Crewman's false edge is useful for some tasks. Both are sound fixed blades. **Q: how thick is spine** A: J.c.h. - Hi, not sure why the others answering this question for you are having trouble measuring their knives!! The spine is approximately 3/16" inch thick OR exactly 0.188 inches thick as listed in the technical specifications on the Ka-Bar website. It's less than 5mm thick (5mm = 0.196 inches)......again, the BK-10 is 0.188 or 3/16" thick which is the same as the longer/bigger brother; the BK9.
