An elegant solid alum block from Edwin Jagger
An elegant solid alum block as only Edwin Jagger could provide. Its nice, clear plastic packaging makes a great little case. It’s the perfect size, as you can see from the photo (shown with Feather blade, Mekur Futur razor and Edwin Jagger styptic pencil). An alum block and styptic pencil are *essential* for wet shaving with double or single edge razors, and very simple to use: After shaving and rinsing, simply moisten the block with cold water and rub over your entire face, even where there aren’t any bleeders. Use the wide sides for face—the smaller ends are perfect for the area above the upper lip. It stops any and all small bleeders immediately, and provide an antiseptic seal. Any bigger cuts require the use of a styptic pencil. Alum does sting slightly, which is a plus for discovering areas that you don’t see bleeding, but are suffering from razor burn. After using, I lightly towel my face and the block dry, then add Trumpers Skin Food to moisturize my face and finish the deal. An hour later my face feels great!

It works well. Shockingly well.
I was not accustomed to using alum or styptic pencils when I first learned to shave in my youth; I used to dab the nicks with small pieces of toilet paper. Then, I started using electric razors. Recently, my trusty Braun razor died after providing 14 years of faithful service. I decided to return to shaving "The Old-Fashioned Way." So, I bought a block of this so that I could do something better than dabbing blood with TP. This stuff works. Egad, does it work! I had a few small pinprick-size nicks after my first shave and this alum block quickly staunched the bleeding, and made my whole face feel quite tingly.

Too small
Quality is excellent. Would buy again if they make a larger version.

Great Product
I have used this stuff for a very long time. The last block was about 1/3 the size of this one and lasted a long time. This one should become part of my estate. It is a valued part of my shaving routine.

Good size block
I was using The Art of Shaving alum block; now I will use Edwin Jagger Alum Block forever. Good size block, feels great. The only thing they should improve is to provide a sturdy case to store and transport the block.

Works well.

Does exactly what its supposed to. Makes skin feel slightly harsh after, so I recommend washing with cold water thoroughly but lasts a long time and does what you need it to do.
