Great resource despite trendy formatting
I've built decks before but bought this to refresh on details before building another. Very good info on details like spans, but I don't like the way it follows the current trend of inserts that extend to another page. That makes it difficult to follow. But since i used it as a reference (rather than reading straight through) there was little inconvenience.

Very thorough and detailed, but easy to understand, lots of helpful photos and diagrams.

Not what I needed
I wanted a book for deck plans and construction details. What I got was a Dream book with pictures of decks I can’t build and scant… scant… details of how to turn lumber into outside living space. I’ll keep it because it is fun to look at the photos. But still searching for a better DIY guide.
