Dyson is three years old and original battery only lasted about 6 mins on medium. I've vacuumed for 20 mins with this one without the battery dying. I don't know that the lights indicate battery life like the original, though, because they're all still illuminated after 20 minutes of use. This thing though has held up great. It has a much better battery life than the stock Dyson V10 battery. I havent seen any issues with it such as heat buildup that make me concerned about its safety. If your looking for a V10 battery I would put this on my recommend list. Its way cheaper than the Dyson replacement battery and works better.
