It has a hard case for the ipad to pop into (in my opinion, protects it even more than one that you would slide your ipad into, protects all corners and sides), the area that you would prop your ipad up to view is padded and also adds even more protection to the front of your ipad once it is closed, the elastic strap to close it is great; more reliable than a magnet that could stop working at any minute and it puts the device on sleep mode, and the protecting plastic cover and stylus was a double bonus.
